It’s time for another royal wedding. Swedish Princess Madeleine announced her engagement to American banker Christopher O’Neill earlier this morning.

The announcement was made on the royal website after the couple received the consent of Madelien’e father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and the approval of the Swedish Government.

O’Neill said:

“Yes, I met with The King and I asked His Majesty’s permission to marry Princess Madeleine. The King and The Queen were both happy, and touched as well, I think.”

The recently engaged couple filmed a short video announcement and posted a brief interview about their relationship on the royal family’s website.

Princess Madeleine said:

“Chris proposed to me in New York at the start of October, and we are very happy.”

O’Neill added:

“Madeleine and I have known each other for two years and I recently summoned up the courage to ask her to marry me. Thankfully she said yes.”

Princess Madeleine, the King of Sweden’s youngest child and fourth in line to the Scandanavian nation’s throne, said that a wedding date has not been set yet, but they are planning to get married in the Summer of 2013.

The royal couple currently live in New York but they will be celebrating their wedding in Sweden.

CNN reports that Madeleine works for the World Childhood Foundation, a nonprofit founded by her mother, and met Chris through mutual friends.

Princess Madeleine said:

“We met through mutual friends. For me it started with a great friendship. We share the same humor and we have a lot of fun together. Christopher opened up my heart, he is my soul mate.”
