Del Potro Dethrones Federer In Epic Five-Set U.S. Open Final

Flushing Meadows, NY (AHN) – Argentine sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro needed five grueling sets in dethroning Roger Federer 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 at the U.S. Open final Monday in New York.
Del Potro, 20, coming off a semifinal conquest over former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, overpowered the top-seeded and defending champ Federer to improve to 1-6 lifetime against the Swiss champ.
The amazing Federer, aiming for a record sixth straight U.S. Open title after prevailing over Serbian fourth seed Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7/3), 7-5, 7-5 in the semis, failed to find his winning form against the Argentine.
Del Potro also pushed Federer to five sets at the French Open, where the Swiss completed a career Grand Slam.
