Selena Gomez Reportedly Turned Down Taylor Swift’s Thanksgiving Invitation, Shared Thank You Note With Fans

Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have been friends for years but when it came to Thanksgiving, Gomez reportedly opted to spend time with her family rather than enjoy a celebration with the “Wildest Dreams” singer.

According to a new report, Swift invited Selena Gomez, who reportedly spent several weeks in rehab earlier this fall, to spend Thanksgiving with her and her guests.

“[Taylor Swift] invited [Selena Gomez] to her big Thanksgiving dinner, but right now Selena just wants to be with her family,” a source told Hollywood Life on November 26. “Spending time with them is her priority.”

That said, the source went on to claim that things between Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift aren’t at all strained and said the singers have allegedly remained in touch throughout Gomez’s tough times.

“She’s been leaning on Taylor a lot though, they’re in touch every day and they’ll be seeing each other soon,” the insider said.

Selena Gomez made her first post-rehab appearance at the 2016 American Music Awards last weekend and during her acceptance speech after being presented with the Best Female Artist: Pop/Rock award, she revealed she no longer needed the validation of others. She also said that she doesn’t want to see people’s bodies. Instead, she wants to see what is in their hearts.

Following her first red carpet appearance after rehab, Selena Gomez returned to social media and shared a thank you note with her many fans and followers on Thanksgiving.

“I have a lot to be thankful for this year.. My year has been the hardest yet most rewarding one yet. I’ve finally fought the fight of not ‘being enough’. I have only wanted to reflect the love you guys have given me for years and show how important it is to take care of YOU. By grace through faith. Kindness always wins. I love you guys. God bless,” she wrote.

Selena Gomez revealed she would be taking some time off in a statement to People Magazine on August 30.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” Selena Gomez said in her statement. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”

Selena Gomez’s statement to the magazine came weeks after she performed what appears to have been the final show of her “Revival World Tour” in Auckland, New Zealand.

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues,” she continued.

A short time after Selena Gomez’s statement was shared, Us Weekly claimed the singer had checked herself into a private and quiet rehabilitation center outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

Us Weekly also shared details of Selena Gomez’s time at the facility, claiming the singer had spent time with a number of family members, including her mother Mandy Teefy, her stepfather and her grandparents. During one outing, the magazine revealed, Selena Gomez enjoyed a dinner date with her mom and her husband, Brian, at a Texas Roadhouse Restaurant in Alcoa, Tennessee. The following morning, Selena Gomez has breakfast with her grandparents.
