Gloria Estefan Says Fidel Castro’s Death ‘Is Filling The Cuban Exile Community With Renewed Hope’

Fidel Castro’s recent passing has left many at a loss as to understanding their feelings, but singer Gloria Estefan suggests that, however one feels about Castro, his death brings an opportunity for hope. Ms. Estefan recently shared her feelings with her Instagram followers, taking the time to write out her thoughts in English and in Spanish, so all of her followers would be able to access the captioned image’s message. Instead of dwelling on Fidel’s death and the life he led as a Cuban ruler, Ms. Estefan focuses on the possibility of a brighter future for the exiled Cubans and for the country itself.

For Gloria Estefan, Fidel Castro’s Death Will Usher In A New Era Of Hope

In covering Gloria Estefan’s Instagram posting, People shares the musician’s sentiments that even Fidel Castro’s death shouldn’t be celebrated, but, instead, can be viewed as a symbol for change. Gloria adds that the “destructive ideologies” promoted by Castro have gone to the grave with him, renewing feelings of hope for the many Cubans exiled from their homeland.

While Ms. Estefan does acknowledge that Fidel’s regime still remains in power, she suggests that it won’t be long before the dictatorship topples and makes way for a fairer form of government. Gloria’s most fervent hope is that practices of “the annihilation of those with an opposing view, the indiscriminate jailing of innocents, the separation of families, the censure of his people’s freedom to speak, state sanctioned terrorism and the economic destruction of a once thriving & successful country” will soon belong to a best forgotten past.

Ms. Estefan added that, as she celebrates Thanksgiving in her second home in the United States, she hopes it won’t be long before Cubans can celebrate thanks and freedom in their own country.

“May freedom continue to ring in the United States, my beautiful adopted country, and may the hope for freedom be inspired and renewed in the heart of every Cuban in my homeland and throughout the world,” wrote Gloria in closing out her caption.

Gloria And Emilio Estefan Spent Thanksgiving By Giving Back To Their Community

NBC Miami reports that Gloria and Emilio Estefan spent their Thanksgiving giving back to those that either can’t do for themselves or cannot afford to eat. The Estefans hosted their 9th annual Thanksgiving Feed a Friend event at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida, where they served meals with “love and kindness” to people, families and children who might not have had a happy Thanksgiving holiday otherwise.

Baptist Health South Florida was just one organization of many contributing to the meals and supplying volunteers to help feed the needy. The Thanksgiving day feast served the traditional dishes, but also included ethnic meals, adding to a wide variety of choices for families in the Cuban community.

Aside from a hearty meal, the event also offered activities for the children, including face painting and arts and crafts activities. The children were also able to visit with Santa Claus.

The Thanksgiving feast offered an opportunity for everyone to share their gratitude and to give thanks for the blessings in their lives. Ms. Estefan shared her own thoughts.

“For my beautiful family, for the unconditional love that you all give me and such support through the years, for being 40 years with the love of my life,” Gloria Estefan said.

Baptist Health VP George Foyo also participated in the event, aiding Gloria and Emilio Estefan in giving back to the area homeless. He shared that he feels strongly about the yearly event, because it offers the community a way to help the homeless children and adults who normally feel alone and forgotten.
