‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Required To Lose Weight Alongside Character Kate

This is Us continues to capture the hearts of fans everywhere with its astounding storylines and characters. One of those beloved characters is Kate Pearson, as played by actress Chrissy Metz on the show. While Metz has had other roles, such as a small part on American Horror Story, but her rise to stardom came fast when the world fell in love with Kate on This is Us. Fans love Chrissy for putting a positive spin on being plus size and embracing who she is, despite her life-long struggle with weight. Metz has made it well known that she loves who she is and is happy with her body, but now it is being revealed that Chrissy is required to lose weight as part of her contract for This is Us.

TV Line recently shared the news from Metz about her mandatory weight loss clause in her contract. Chrissy says that her own life is parallel to her character, Kate’s. With Kate working hard to lose weight, it seemed only realistic that Chrissy work towards the same goal. Chrissy was very positive about the weight loss and said she was happy to sign the contract.

“In our contract, it did state that that would be a part of it, to lose the weight in the trajectory of the character as she comes to find herself. That was a win-win for me. Because it’s one thing to try to do it on your own. But as human beings, it’s an ego thing: We’re more likely to do something for someone else.”

When talking about her role as Kate, Chrissy is excited that becoming a healthier individual is part of the plan. Metz says it is a different kind of motivation. On the show, Chrissy’s character has a great desire to lose weight. Kate even joined an Eaters Anonymous group where she met her on-screen boyfriend, Toby. Kate’s relationship with Toby has, at times, been hard because of his ease of losing weight and her struggles with it not happening as quickly for her.

Being plus size is not new to Chrissy. People recently shared that Chrissy remembers being in Weight Watchers at the young age of 11. Metz has always struggled with her weight, but once she reached the age of 30, Chrissy realized that her life is her own and her choices are also her own to make. Metz opted to be positive and embrace who she was. Just like her character, Chrissy had to come to terms with her size at a young age.

When talking further about her character Chrissy says she embraces the need to change.

“I, as Chrissy, want to do things that mentally, emotionally and physically make me the best that I can be. That’s the intention for our writers and the development of the character.”

Chrissy and Kate will truly be going on this journey together.

While Chrissy will be losing weight, she has a clear message for her fans. Metz would never want those who admire her to feel she sold out for fame.

“Whether or not I lose weight or stay the same, it’s purely a choice of mine for health. Not because I think that plus size, curvy, voluptuous, big bodies aren’t attractive — because I think they’re awesome and sexy.” Metz goes on to say, “So I’ll just have to make sure that’s known, because I’m not selling out the big girls. I don’t do that. That’s not me.”

Chrissy will no doubt continue to inspire plus size women everywhere with her positive outlook and weight loss, as it gradually happens. It’s inspiring to watch an actress take the same road as her character and know they both have such similar lives. This is Us fans will stand devoted every step of the way to watch Chrissy and Kate as they progress through their journey.
