Clint Eastwood has been given a chance to redeem himself in the GOP with a new anti-Obama ad titled “At Stake.”

Eastwood’s “empty chair” may have gone viral following his Republican National Convention stump speech for GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, but the general reception to his appearance was lackluster. In a more serious and eloquent (read: scripted) tone, Eastwood warns about out country’s rising dependence on China’s credit, and says that America needs a country that President Obama can’t provide.

To Eastwood, another four years of President Obama carries a price tag that Americans simply cannot afford. The New York Times reports that the American Crossroads ad will run in seven states, and that early testing of the ad proved effective:

“After some testing, Crossroads found that potential audiences, who are often wary of celebrity endorsements, still appreciated Mr. Eastwood as an American icon and liked the idea of his appearance in the ad as long as it did not seem overdone. So while Mr. Eastwood narrates the entire ad, he appears on camera only at the very end.”

Eastwood himself explained his motives for participating in the ad via email:

“I did the ad because I’m concerned for our country,” he said. “I really believe Mitt Romney is the kind of leader we need right now. He’s an experienced businessman, and he knows how to work with people to fix problems. It’s time to give someone else a chance to fix our country.”

Eastwood’s American Crossroads ad starts running Wednesday in seven states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio and Virginia. But you can watch it below:
