‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7: Lauren Cohan On Maggie’s Future — ‘TWD’ Cast And Crew Tease Spoilers

The Walking Dead Season 7 is underway, with Episode 6 airing on Sunday night. Last week, fans finally saw how Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) and her unborn child were doing after Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character, Negan, killed Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz). What does the future hold for Maggie now that she is at the Hilltop Colony? Recently, Lauren Cohan as well as other cast and crew members teased some details.

TWD spoilers are ahead. If you don’t want to know what could happen on the zombie apocalypse television show, then do not continue reading.

On the last episode of The Walking Dead, Maggie found out her baby was okay. The pain she was experiencing and the stress from watching Negan kill Glenn did not cause her to miscarry. However, she does have a pregnancy complication and needs to be careful. Of course, that didn’t stop Maggie from bulldozing walkers and a car with a blaring radio when the Hilltop Colony was in danger.

As many fans commented on internet forums and on social media during the season break, if Glenn died on The Walking Dead, then Maggie would need her baby to be okay. She would need someone to live for and a child would give her that. Thankfully, the writers decided to let Glenn and Maggie’s baby survive, at least so far.

What does the actress, cast, and crew have to say about Maggie on TWD? According to AMC, some spoilers were revealed about this particular character. Executive producer Greg Nicotero said that it is “significant” that Maggie ended up at the Hilltop Colony after Glenn died. He explained that it confirms that she has a future. He also stated that when Maggie is told that her baby is okay, then it means she can move on and raise her and Glenn’s child. Lauren Cohan also teased that Maggie still wants revenge. However, her primary concern right now is keeping her baby safe.

As for Maggie and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), they are both currently at the Hilltop Colony. Executive producer Scott Gimple teased why they are so important to this particular storyline.

“Sasha and Maggie are suddenly important to the Hilltop. They have skills that the Hilltoppers don’t necessarily have.”

Last week on The Walking Dead, Gregory (Xander Berkeley) nearly ratted out Maggie and Sasha out to Simon and the Saviors. However, Jesus (Tom Payne) hid them in a different closet, which saved them. Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd spoke about why Gregory doesn’t want Maggie at the Hilltop.

“Maggie is exactly the type of person Gregory doesn’t want to have around because she is a more capable leader and people respect her and will follow her.”

There is another reason Gregory doesn’t want Maggie and Sasha at the Hilltop Colony. That is because if Negan finds out they are there, it puts Gregory’s life on the line. To him, the fact that Maggie is pregnant doesn’t matter. All Gregory cares about is saving himself. Sonequa Martin-Green hinted that worse things might be coming ahead as far as Gregory is concerned.

“Anyone who fears more for their life than they care for others lives is a bomb waiting to go off.”

As for Maggie’s future on The Walking Dead, fans are expecting her to be the next leader of the Hilltop Colony. This might happen and Nicotero teased that Maggie sees an opportunity. She can teach the community the skills she has learned over the past few years. She can also provide real leadership and help protect the Hilltop Colony residents. Tom Payne added that the situation with Negan is not going to get better and Gregory is not the right person to deal with it.
