Chrissy Metz is a name being Googled regularly now that the controversial news about the This is Us actress has broken, with Metz admitting that she signed a contract to lose weight during the NBC drama. As reported by the Inquisitr, Metz’s character recently made a big decision about her weight during the Thanksgiving-themed episode of This is Us — with Chrissy’s character deciding to get gastric bypass surgery in order to lose weight.

Whether Metz herself has decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery in real life in order to fulfill her NBC contract’s weight-loss requirements remains to be seen, but Chrissy has revealed certain aspects of her feelings about her weight, as witnessed in the below video from Today.

As reported by Today, Metz plays Kate Pearson on This is Us, and the 37-year-old Chrissy has drawn tons of interest from viewers who aren’t used to seeing a woman of Metz’s weight and height on TV very often in such a prominent role.
Metz’s weight has been written into her role big time on This is Us, with Chrissy’s character even getting a job as a personal assistant with a woman who admitted that her weight played into her hiring decision.
On social media, controversy has erupted over Chrissy reportedly being required to lose weight as a requirement for Metz’s TV role; however, Chrissy called the weight loss requirement by NBC a “win-win” situation that is motivating to Metz in her weight loss journey.
Those who don’t find Metz’s weight loss requirements controversial liken Chrissy’s situation to any actress who would be required to gain weight for a movie or TV role. Today reported that the weight loss requirement only motivated Metz to do something she didn’t do for herself until that point.
“In our contract, it did state that that would be a part of it, to lose the weight in the trajectory of the character as she comes to find herself. That was a win-win for me. Because it’s one thing to try to do it on your own. But as human beings, it’s an ego thing: We’re more likely to do something for someone else.”

Chrissy has faced some backlash from some fans who celebrated the fact that an overweight actress finally gained a major role on a TV show – only to have Metz’s character’s main storyline to revolve around being a member of Overeaters Anonymous who deals with falling in love with another overweight character who doesn’t care about losing weight. Metz’s love interest is Chris Sullivan, who plays Toby on the show.
Metz told Today that being an overweight woman in Hollywood who agreed to lose weight for a role doesn’t make her a sellout.
“I just have to be very clear. Whether or not I lose weight or stay the same, it’s purely a choice of mine for health. Not because I think that plus size, curvy, voluptuous, big bodies aren’t attractive — because I think they’re awesome and sexy. So I’ll just have to make sure that’s known, because I’m not selling out the big girls. I don’t do that. That’s not me.”
