Nicole Kidman Talks About Her First Kiss With Tom Cruise And Supporting Urban Through Addiction

The first meeting between Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise was one to remember and one that began a pivotal point in the career of the now-notable actress. Nicole recently spoke with People and Entertainment Weekly and shared that her first meeting with her former husband Tom Cruise was during her audition for Days of Thunder in 1990. It was that very film which sparked the romance between the two and then led to their marriage. People shared the beauty’s words.

“I remember walking in, I remember being so nervous and seeing Tom Cruise drive up in a Porsche, I think it was,” she recalled. “He got out of the car and walked through and I was like, ‘Ah.’ My jaw dropped. Then I had to go in and audition in front of Tony Scott. Sweet Tony. [Producers] Don Simpson, Jerry Bruckheimer, Robert Towne and Tom. I was like, ‘No way, I’m not going to get this.’ They called that afternoon and I had the job.”

The actress then shares how she celebrated the news about landing the role with her mother right away.

“I was just like, ‘Oh my god, Mom!’ Yeah, that was huge. Huge. You know, obviously, changed my life extraordinarily. So grateful for the film, for everything that came with it. It was a big, important part of my life.”

Kidman has been happily married for 10 years to Keith Urban and shares two daughters, yet also has two children with her ex-husband Cruise, Isabella and Connor. Kidman was married for 10 years to Tom Cruise and she relayed that she has only good memories about their “beautiful marriage.”

“[It was] a beautiful marriage and all of those things that came out of it,” Kidman says of her 10-year marriage to Cruise. “Two beautiful children. The rest is history.”

The Lion star has recently been the center of rumors revolving around her marriage to Keith Urban. Claims have been made that the pair are having difficulties in their marriage, which began to circulate after Kidman arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival without Keith Urban by her side. The pair rarely make appearances without the other next to them, so of course, rumors began. Such claims were shot down by the couple and the two stated that they are solid and going strong.

Kidman has recently opened up about her current husband and the trials he has been through that have required her support. The star spoke candidly about how she has supported Keith over a decade through his challenging battle with addiction and noted that all she can do is be there for him. Billboard shares Kidman’s words.

“You can’t save somebody,” she says. “They’ve got to save themselves.”

Urban has spoken out about his battle with his addiction throughout his career and while he was struggling to make it in the music industry in Nashville. The country star finally checked into a rehab center in 2007, only months before marrying Nicole Kidman.

Nicole spoke about how when you’re in a relationship with an addict, it is not only important for the addict to get help, but also for those supporting the individual too.

“To put your hand up, to reach out. There is absolutely help out there,” she says. It’s a lesson the actress had to learn herself, something that was “a very big thing for people like me who go, ‘I can take care of you. I can do it’… At some point, you just have to say, ‘I love you and I’m here when you decide to do the work. If you don’t, then that’s it.”

The actress went on to state that there is plenty of good that comes on the other side and that there is an “extraordinary life” waiting for those who are willing to do the work. She and Urban now continue support by helping others struggling.

“Both he and I that’s part of our purpose in terms of life… it’s part of our service,” the actress says.
