Clijsters Collects Second U.S. Open Title; Topples Wozniacki

Clijsters

Flushing Meadows, NY (AHN) – Unseeded and unretired Kim Clijsters collected her second U.S. Open title, dismantling No. 9 Caroline Wozniacki 7-5, 6-3 Sunday at Flushing Meadows.

Clijsters became the first unseeded woman to win the title, and became the mother of success as the first mom to win a major in nearly three decades.

The win, her second here after capturing the U.S. Open in 2005, capped a remarkable comeback after Clijsters’ retirement from the sport due to “numerous nagging” injuries.

Clijsters is not only back, she appears to be better than ever, toppling both Williams’ sisters and seeded players along the way to winning it all.

Clijsters showed plenty of fight, coming back from a 4-2 deficit to win the first set.

She also broke Wozniacki’s serve four times in that span.
