Melania Trump Wedding Dress Designer Could Make Clothes For New FLOTUS

Melania Trump’s wedding dress designer could land the job of making clothes for the 46-year-old former model as French fashion designer Sophie Theallet has decided not to dress the incoming First Lady of the United States.

Sophie Theallet, who has dressed outgoing FLOTUS Michelle Obama over the past eight years, announced her decision not to work for Melania on Saturday. The fashion house revealed that it made the decision due to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s stand on several issues.

“As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady. The rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by,” the statement from Sophie Theallet said.

Melania Trump’s wedding dress was made by fashion designer John Galliano for Christian Dior. With the French designer out of her list, the incoming FLOTUS could turn to the designer who worked on her nuptial gown. According to Racked, the dress bore the finale style of the 2004 Christian Dior fall couture show. Melania appeared in the dress on the cover of Vogue in February 2005.

Coming on the heels of Michelle Obama, who is considered to have displayed an impressive sense of fashion, Melania, who is known for her opulent and stylish taste, is expected to live up to her predecessor. According to Racked, as First Lady, Melania will wield a lot of influence in the world of fashion and could “define the look of an era.”

Melania Trump’s wedding dress, which reportedly cost $140,000, was fitted with 1500 rhinestones and pearls, according to Earn The Necklace. As evidence of her love for fashion, Melania is said to have changed into three dresses on the day of her nuptial to Trump.

During Trump’s campaign, Melania often appeared in big name brands like Ralph Lauren and Gucci. She also wore clothes from some stand-out up-and-coming brands. Critics say that she appeared to have been dressing down as she ditched her usual extravagant style for a more modest appearance. However, she is expected to go back to her outwardly opulent look as FLOTUS.

Melania Trump’s wedding dress, which is ranked as one of the most expensive wedding gowns ever, is said to be a good hint of her fashion style. The incoming FLOTUS’ appearance is expected to be under the spotlight during Trump’s tenure. The widespread interest in the white dress that Melania wore when she addressed the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio in July might presage the fashion craze that is set to ensue.

Melania donned a white dress designed by Roksanda Ilnic to the convention. Soon after her appearance at the event, the dress sold out online, according to Yahoo. Fashion critics widely applauded Melania’s decision to don the $2,190 dress, which was reportedly marketed as an urban wedding gown.

Some even pointed to the fact that she may have worn the dress to make a political statement about immigration as it was made by a Serbian designer based in the UK. Just like the designer, Melania, who was born in Slovenia, is also from Central Europe. Serbia and Slovenia used to be part of Yugoslavia.

There are talks that the incoming FLOTUS would be modeled after Jackie O. Kennedy. If this is the case, just like Jackie, Melania’s fashion choices as First Lady could influence many generations to come.

If Melania Trump’s wedding dress is anything to go by, the incoming FLOTUS will not fail to thrill the world of fashion during her husband’s tenure.
