‘La La Land’ Star Emma Stone Tells Jennifer Lawrence To ‘F— Off’ And Twerks With Ellen DeGeneres

As La La Land nears its December debut and fan interest in Emma Stone reaches a zenith, the actress is sharing more about herself, as she participates in press interviews for La La Land‘s release. Sharing more about her personal life than ever before, Stone shares the odd way in which she became best friends with Jennifer Lawrence, a friendship based on sarcasm and plenty of F bombs. If that’s not enough for Emma’s more diehard fans, the La La Land star also took time to work up a sweat, twerking with Ellen DeGeneres.

La La Land Star Emma Stone Told Jennifer Lawrence To “F— Off!”

Elle revealed that the friendship between Stone and Lawrence developed as the result of their mutual friendships with Woody Harrelson, who had worked with Emma on 2009’s Zombieland. Harrelson had also worked with Lawrence on The Hunger Games saga. Ever the matchmaker, Woody suggested to Ms. Stone that she and Jennifer would hit it off and passed Lawrence’s cell number off to Stone.

The response Stone got from Lawrence was just what one might expect, knowing just how forward the X-Men actress can be at times.

“She texted me that she got my number from Woody,” Lawrence recalled. “I replied, F— off!’ And we’ve been really good friends ever since.”

Ms. Lawrence says that, following that introduction, she and Emma have become the closest of friends. The two actresses have texted each other everyday for a year and Jennifer calls the budding friendship “our version of The Notebook—365 texts,” even though Emma confesses to feeling intimidated by the Hollywood A-lister. Ms. Stone says that her ego suffered from the vibrant personality and immense talent exhibited by Jennifer Lawrence, until she forced herself to take a step back and put things in perspective.

“Then I chilled the f— out—and remembered we’re completely different and there is room for everyone, even if it’s an industry that doesn’t really seem to support that idea up front,” said La La Land‘s Emma Stone.

“We both really do love each other and care about each other as people, beyond being actors. I support her completely when it comes to work and I feel the same from her, but I know we’d be friends even if we didn’t do the same job.”

Ellen DeGeneres Challenges Emma Stone To A Twerk Off

E! News revealed that Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling reunited for their third film together, previously having starred in Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad, and, while that did make things easier, the two actors put in extra time rehearsing their La La Land scenes. One scene in which Stone and Gosling appear to be dancing in mid air required extra rehearsal time and Emma says she’s grateful for the compliments she has already received for her performance in the number.

Stone says knowing Ryan Gosling as well as she does was a big help, particularly because it meant not having to feel as embarrassed about sweating in front of him. Emma confessed to Ellen DeGeneres that she has a big problem with sweating.

“With him, I was sweating all over him and felt fine about it. I sweat a lot. After about a minute of any type of physical exertion, I break into a horrible sweat. Any kind of exertion!”

It wasn’t always this way. The La La Land star says she never had a problem with excessive sweating and suggests it may be a hormonal problem.

“This is a new problem that I should probably get checked out, over the past year and a half or so,” Emma said. “We would dance for about a minute and he’d be like, ‘You all right? You OK?’ Everywhere. Just a lot of sweat. I’m glad I can talk about this on national television. This is going to help.”

So much talk about sweating and dancing gave Ellen a great idea. She challenged Emma to a new game called Last Dance, which DeGeneres described as “Hot Potato dancing.” The rules seemed simple enough with each of them dancing to whatever song came up on Ellen’s monitors. A ding means the current dancer has to stop and remain in that position, until it’s her turn again.

Emma twerked to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and she seemed to really get into it, until the words on the monitor threw her off balance and Ms. Stone fell into a fit of giggles.
