Should Kyle Busch be in the Chase?

The 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup series regular season ahs come to an end. This Sunday marks the beginning of NASCAR’s version of the playoffs. Now the top twelve drivers in owner’s points will battle it out over the next 10 weeks to determine who will be the 2009 Sprint Cup champion. However young Kyle Busch will not be among those participating in this year’s chase. Despite having four wins on the year, Kyle fell just short of qualifying for the chase and will have to try again in 2010.

The fact that Kyle won four races during the regular season and fell short of qualifying for the chase by just eight points, well lure fans to argue that he deserves to be a part of the chase. Based on that evidence they may have a good point. However given the fact the Kyle suffered through a mid season slump, and his historic collapse in last year’s chase, maybe they don’t.

In fact this is the third time Kyle has collapsed when facing the NASCAR post season. Granted if you had to win one race Kyle would be the guy you would put behind the wheel, no question. However if he really wants to cement his standing in this sport and with these fans he is going to have to win a title, just like his older brother did.

Kyle is going to have to learn to point’s race once in awhile, he cannot win a Sprint Cup title driving like Ricky Bobby’s catch phrase first or last rattling around between his ears. For 2009 Kyle can race to win, come 2010 he must race to score points.
