Tiger Tears Up Field, Wins BMW Championship By Eight Shots
Lemont, IL (AHN) – Tiger Woods, coming off a course-record 62 Saturday, held on to a seven-stroke lead en route to a three-under 68 and capture the BMW Championship on Sunday.
The finale resulted in the form of jockeying in FedEx Cup playoffs that restored Woods back to the top spot in the points race with just the Tour Championships remaining.
The victory also placed Woods ahead in the Player of the Year race.
Woods registered one bogey on the par -4 5th hole Sunday, putting him at 19-under, eight shots ahead of fellow American Jim Furyk and Marc Leishman of Australia.
Leishman finished with a two-under 69, catapulting him 51 places for 16th spot in the FedEx Cup this week.
Furyk landed in the top five of the FedEx Cup rankings with his second-place finish, a bogey-free 66 on Sunday.
Finishing fourth at minus-10 was Sean O’Hair followed by Zach Johnson, who posted a three-under 68.
Last year’s winner Camilo Villegas ended with a share at eighth at minus-five with a 66.
Phil Mickelson was tied for 30th place at plus-two after carding a five-over 76 on Sunday.
