This Duggar Family Member Is Being Compared To Britney Spears And Getting Criticized For Putting Child In Danger

Fans of the Duggar family are comparing Jim Bob Duggar to Britney Spears for doing something dangerous with his 6-year-old daughter, Josie.

The Duggar family is often criticized for the photos that they post on social media, and they’ve been accused of putting their children in danger on more than one occasion. The family’s latest picture stirring up controversy is an image that was recently shared on the Duggar Family Official Facebook and Twitter pages. In the picture, Jim Bob Duggar is driving a vehicle with his youngest child, Josie, in his lap.

“Jordyn & Josie enjoying sweet moments with Daddy!” the image was captioned.

A few fans slammed the Duggar family for letting Josie sit in the front seat of the vehicle without a seat belt on.

“WTH Putting Josie in danger!! Seat belt??? You people make your own rules,” Nyla Rankin wrote.

Others compared Jim Bob Duggar to Britney Spears.

“Britney Spears got in trouble for that. Just saying…..” Thomas Ludwig commented.

In 2006, the paparazzi photographed Britney Spears driving with her infant son, Sean Preston, in her lap. The pop star later said that she wanted to keep her baby close to her because she feared the “physically aggressive” photographers that were following her.

“I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm’s way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us,” Spears said, according to Billboard.

Britney Spears was investigated by the Department of Family and Children Services, but the authorities decided not to press any charges.

A few fans of the Duggar family have argued that what Britney Spears did was more dangerous because she was on a busy public highway. In the Duggars’ photo, it appears that Jim Bob and Josie are driving around on the grassy land surrounding their family’s home.

So could Jim Bob get in trouble with the law? According to a Springdale, Arkansas City Attorney Law Letter, there are some traffic laws that Arkansas citizens can get away with breaking on private property. For example, the state’s seat belt law can’t be enforced on private property. However, police officers can charge citizens with “careless and prohibited driving” on their own land. According to Arkansas Code Annotated § 27-51-104, careless and prohibited driving includes operating or driving a vehicle “wherein or whereon passengers are located in such a manner as to be dangerous to the welfare of such passengers.”

It’s unclear whether Jim Bob Duggar’s actions would be considered a violation of this law, but even if they were, his family probably wouldn’t be too devastated by the punishment for it: “a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100).”

Most commenters on the Duggar Family Official Facebook page aren’t blasting Jim Bob for putting Josie in danger — they’re praising him for making them reminisce about their fathers doing the same thing.

“He takes them driving in his yard. They showed it in their show. My dad use to do the same. Loved it,” Mike N Tabitha Harrod wrote.

This isn’t the first time a Duggar family photo has caused a debate over child safety. According to SheKnows, some critics slammed the Duggars for being careless with a gun while they were vacationing in Texas last year. In a Facebook picture that was taken during their family trip, Josie Duggar can be seen walking toward a gun lying on the ground.

Some of the Duggars’ Facebook followers defended the family by arguing that the gun in the photo didn’t look like a deadly rifle — they believed that it was most likely a less dangerous BB gun. However, many commenters pointed out that kids can still injure themselves with BB guns.
