Do You Believe In The Mothman? Alleged Sighting In West Virginia

An alleged Mothman sighting in West Virginia has caught the attention of a news station in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Do you believe in the Mothman?

Last Sunday, November 20, a man claimed that he was traveling on State Highway 2 in West Virginia when he suddenly noticed a creature jumping from one tree to the next, West Virginia Ghosts reports. The man snapped some pictures of the alleged Mothman and reported it to the local news, WCHS TV 8.

“A man driving along State Highway 2 in Point Pleasant said he snapped these pictures of a creature jumping from tree to tree. Many locals in Point Pleasant believe it resembles the legendary Mothman — a red-eyed creature many believe is a bad omen.”

Jeff Wamsley, the owner of the Mothman museum, told reporters that it is very difficult with today’s technology to know whether or not the pictures are actually real.

Carolin Harris, the owner of The Mothman Diner, says that she knows for a fact that the Mothman is real. She said that there have been way too many Mothman sightings for her not to believe in it.

According to Exemplore, Mothman sightings were reported just before the Silver Bridge catastrophe. The Silver Bridge was built in 1928. It connected Gallipolis, Ohio, and Point Pleasant, West Virginia. On December 15, 1967, many lives were lost after the bridge fell apart during rush hour. There were 46 lives lost that day.

There were claims by some that the Mothman was seen by the bridge before it collapsed. This theory led to people believing that the Mothman was an omen.

It was revealed that a strange creature was spotted in Point Pleasant for a year before the bridge collapsed. The creature was said to have glowing eyes, huge wings, and looked somewhat human-like. Furthermore, people stated that the creature was able to fly.

During the alleged sightings, a wildlife expert suggested that people were simply seeing a sandhill crane, which can stand up to 4 feet tall and whose wingspans can reach as wide as 7 feet, but witnesses are determined that what they saw was certainly not a crane.

Some have blamed owls for what people believe to be the Mothman, but it is also possible that what people are seeing is some sort of unidentified species not known to modern science.

Others think that the Mothman is some sort of UFO, an alien, an angel, or maybe even a demon. Some believe that the Mothman appears to warn of a disaster, such as the Silver Bridge tragedy.

If the Mothman does warn of an upcoming disaster — or cause natural disasters — should the town of Point Pleasant be worried if the Mothman has returned?

West Virginia has been a happening place for Mothman sightings. In 1960, a girl was traveling near the Ohio River with her father when she noticed a human-like creature with large wings fly away, QSL reveals. A second sighting, also in West Virginia along the Ohio River, reported seeing “an angel” outside. In 1966, in the same area, a woman saw what she claimed was a “giant butterfly.”

Newell Partridge explained his experience with the alleged Mothman. During the month of November, 1966, the Salem resident claimed that his dog was barking at two red objects hovering over the field. Bandit, his German Shepherd, took off towards the creature and was never seen again.

The day after Partridge’s sighting, a couple from Point Pleasant also claimed to have seen a large creature on the side of the road.

“It was shaped like a man, but bigger. Maybe six and a half or seven feet tall. And it had big wings folded against its back.”

Mrs. Scareberry further backed her husband’s comment with how red its huge eyes were, “like automobile reflectors.”

Point Pleasant certainly isn’t alone with its Mothman sightings. Do you believe in the Mothman?
