Nadal Topples Gonzalez, Advances To U.S. Open Semifinals

Flushing Meadows, NY (AHN) – Rafael Nadal won a pair of tiebreakers and blanked Fernando Gonzalez in the third set to win a U.S. Open quarterfinal match 7-6, 7-6, 6-0 Saturday in New York.

Afternoon rains washed out play at the U.S. Open Friday, causing a second delay in the match between the pair which initially began Thursday.

The No. 3 Nadal won the first set 7-6, and settled the second set as well in a tiebreaker in the quarterfinal matchup when it continued Saturday.

That seemed to take the steam out of Gonzalez in the third set, won easily by Nadal.

Gonzalez is seeded No. 11 at the tourney.

Nadal takes on No. 6 Juan Martin del Potro Sunday in a semifinal.
