‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Trailer’s Release Date Revealed

With Spider-Man: Homecoming now just under eight months away from release, the time is nigh for the reveal of its first trailer. It was speculated that this footage might have arrived with Marvel Studio’s latest film Doctor Strange, but its November release date came and went without a sneaky peek at Peter Parker’s antics.

Instead, it has now been alleged that Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s first trailer will be attached to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is due out in less than a month’s time. That’s according to sources close to Comic Book, who believes that the trailer will actually hit online a few days before Rogue One’s release date of December 16, giving movie fans the perfect early Christmas present to repeatedly devour.

Sony Pictures didn’t respond to Comic Book when they pushed for a comment on the matter. Since Sony reached an agreement with Marvel that allowed Spider-Man to be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would make sense for Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s trailer to be shown before Rogue One. That’s because both Marvel and Lucasfilm are owned by Disney, who knows that Rogue One’s legion of fans will be just as interested in watching Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Attendees of the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con that were lucky enough to squeeze into Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Hall H panel back in July have already been privy to the trailer, which will give us our most prolonged look at Tom Holland’s incarnation of the superhero yet, as well as our first glimpse at Michael Keaton’s Vulture, who is the villain of the film.

Of course, those of you that have seen Captain America: Civil War will be fully aware that Spider-Man: Homecoming doesn’t actually mark the debut of Tom Holland as Spider-Man. That’s because Holland wowed as the superhero in his brief appearance in the blockbuster earlier this summer. After being recruited by Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) for Iron Man’s battle against Captain America (Chris Evans), Spider-Man then went toe-to-toe with The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) in what was roundly agreed to be one of the film’s funniest moments.

That only whet the appetite for Spider-Man: Homecoming, which itself is speculated to be the first of at least a trilogy of new films based on the character. Especially since Tom Holland recently revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that he’s signed up to appear as Spider-Man in six Marvel films.

“They give you options, and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers. I’m unclear as to which movies, though,” Holland explained. “I do know I have three Spider-Man movies and three solo movies contracted.”

Tom Holland then waxed lyrical about working with Marvel Studios, admitting that they gave him the freedom to go and work on other projects, too, in between his Spider-Man commitments. “But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it,” Holland insisted. “They’re very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other.”

2017 marks a very busy year for Marvel Studios, as this is the first where they’re going to release three additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Just two months before Spider-Man: Homecoming hits cinemas on July 7, 2017, we’ll also get to see Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, which will be released on May 5, 2017. Then Thor: Ragnarok will arrive on November 3, 2017.

Subsequent years are set to be the same, too, because 2018 will see the release of Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, while at the moment only Captain Marvel and an untitled Avengers sequel are planned for 2019, but that’s expected to change when Marvel Studios announce their plans for Phase 4.
