Tom Hanks Wishes Donald Trump The Best Of Luck As President, Would Consider Voting For Him In 2020

Tom Hanks has high hopes for the Donald Trump administration to the point that he might be convinced to vote to reelect Trump in four years.

The beloved acting legend is a liberal Democrat who was supportive of President Obama and contributed money to Hillary Clinton’s campaign. While no Trump fan by any means, he has declined to join, however, in the ongoing condemnation of Trump, a Republican who was formerly a Democrat and independent, by many of his fellow Hollywood celebrities or echo their flamboyant threats to leave the country.

Hanks was honored on Tuesday night by the Museum of Modern Art in New York City at its ninth annual Film Benefit, during which he insisted in a speech that American is “going to be all right” because it’s the greatest country in the world, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“We, who are a week into wondering what the hell just happened, will continue to move forward. We have to choose to do so, but we will move forward because if we do not move forward, what is to be said of us?” Hanks declared in his speech.

Among other things, he also praised the U.S. Constitution, describing it as a “document [that] is going to protect us over and over again whether or not our neighbors preserve, protect, and defend it themselves.”

With 81 acting credits on IMDb, Tom Hanks, 60, perhaps America’s favorite leading man, won a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Philadelphia (1993) as well as a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a People’s Choice Award for Best Actor for his role as the title character in Forrest Gump (2004).

In April, while dismissing Trump as the “president of the junior chamber of commerce,” Hanks similarly told the CBS This Morning crew that “America’s going to be fine. We’re the greatest, most resilient nation in the history of…in all of civilization. We’ll be fine. We’ve worked ourselves out of holes many, many times over and over again.”

He also predicted that the final months of the presidential campaign would be “most hilarious.”

As alluded to above, heading into the Museum of Modern Art gala, Hanks disclosed to the Hollywood Reporter that he hopes that Donald Trump will be a success as the 45th U.S. president and that he looks forward to voting for Trump in 2020 if he does a good job.

“This is the United States of America. We’ll go on. There’s great like-minded people out there who are Americans first and Republicans or Democrats second. I hope the president-elect does such a great job that I vote for his re-election in four years.”

“Prior to the presidential election, Hanks spoke out against Trump’s lewd Access Hollywood comments, saying he was ‘offended as a man’ and criticizing the then-Republican nominee for his lack of government experience. But speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on the black carpet leading into the gala, he reiterated what he’d said in April on CBS This Morning, and what he would later say in his speech, that the country and its people would be OK,” the Hollywood Reporter added.

“[Hanks] is also one of the most accomplished and respected actors of his generation. Maybe, just maybe, others will pause and take his words to heart,” PJ Media observed about the call for national unity as President-elect Trump prepares to take office.

The Sully star has laughed off documentary filmmaker Michael Moore’s suggestion that the actor should run for president in 2020. Hanks joked that he isn’t even qualified to be a CPA.

Tom Hanks will be among 21 luminaries to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom before Barack Obama leaves office in January of 2017.
