Marvel TV’s ‘Inhumans’ Live Action Coming To IMAX Movie Theaters And Living Rooms, MCU Version Not The Same

Marvel’s The Inhumans live action series has been announced by Marvel Television for IMAX movie theaters as well as the small screen, according to Marvel. The premiere will debut in IMAX commercial theaters with the first two episodes. This is not to be confused with Marvel Studios’ Inhumans movie.

Clearing Up The Scheduling Confusion

The interesting thing about Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is that he referred to the Inhumans in a TV show format. The movie version was scheduled via the El Capitan Phase Three event, according to Slash Film. It was embedded among a line-up of other great MCU movies then later pulled from the 2019 scheduled release. Slash Film later pressed Feige regarding recent news of the Inhumans movie, but he cited an idea of the characters “happening on television.”

“I think Inhumans will happen for sure. I don’t know when. I think it’s happening on television. And I think as we get into Phase 4 as I’ve always said, it could happen as a movie. I think it would be super cool.”

Being that this statement was around a short 10 days ago, it’s quite the coincidence that Feige may have been in the loop about this Marvel announcement not only for TV, but for IMAX theaters. That’s quite the twist isn’t it? Another report by io9 gave their take on it because it added confusion to the mix. Keep in mind, ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have the Inhumans already incorporated on the small screen. Feige was quoted saying this as if he had no idea that they were on the ABC TV show.

Another case of misdirection and now today’s surprise?

Since the Inhumans movie was pulled off the list, there are three unannounced dates scheduled for 2020 that may indicate that this project could be set for one of those dates. Later on, though, Kevin Feige gave a range of time in which the Inhumans could be scheduled.

“I think what we could do with Inhumans could be pretty great. I’ve always loved that royal family and the idea of [their secret homeland] Attilan. We are extremely busy on the NINE movies that we’re making over the next three years. Where we go with Phase IV, in 2021 to ’24 and beyond, I would be surprised if Inhumans is not a part of that.”

Feige also claimed how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are “sewing a lot of seeds, and I think will continue to do so in an even bigger fashion, on television.”

Interestingly, the Inhumans were introduced into the world of comic books via Fantastic Four No. 45 in 1965, according to Los Angeles Daily News. It’s funny that the comic book that introduced the Kree creations are owned by Sony Pictures.

12 Years A Slave Writer’s Mystery Project Solved?

A Marvel Inhumans thought by Den of Geek had speculated that Oscar-winning writer John Ridley could be the one involved in this project. He’s worked on ABC’s American Crime, so he does have familiarity with the TV network. However, there have been rumors leaning towards him doing a Ms. Marvel project of sorts, but it’s only speculation at this point, according to Comic Book Movie.

Ridley did an interview with Collider about his Marvel TV project last year, but he did remain mum on the details. ABC has a different set of rules to follow as opposed to Netflix, so this is a hint that the project won’t be as dark and gritty. Since Ridley’s proven projects allow for deep thinking, one could ascertain from there that the show may be light and cerebral. It does make sense as the Inhumans tend to go in the way of intellect as a genetically modified set of humans thanks to the Kree.

John made a comparison to Netflix’s Jessica Jones.

“Look at Jessica Jones and what they’re doing. It’s quality stuff. So, I hope and believe that, if we have the opportunity to do it, it will be done with quality. Because it is something that people maybe go, ‘Why would John do that?'”

Do you think it would be feasible to have this new method of introducing the Inhumans as a live action TV show via IMAX and on the small screen even if they do exist on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and later as a full-fledged motion picture?

So you have a Marvel Inhumans movie, an IMAX episodic live action series scheduled for September of 2017, and the already existing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. What more could you want?
