Week 11 Thursday Night Football Preview: Saints At Panthers — Injury Updates, Fantasy Football Projections, Vegas Odds


Competing to stay out of last place in the NFC South, if the New Orleans Saints (4-5) or Carolina Panthers (3-6) are going to turn things around this season, it must begin during this week’s NFL Thursday night match-up.

After every team from the division except for Tampa Bay lost in Week 10, even the last place Panthers are only 2.5 games behind the first-place Atlanta Falcons. When these two teams played in New Orleans for Week 6, the Saints won 41-38.

Week 6 Injury And Suspension Updates

According to the injury report from CBS Sports on Monday, four players for the Carolina Panthers are listed as questionable for Thursday’s game against the Saints, and all four of them are from Carolina’s defense. Linebacker Shaq Green-Thompson is dealing with a knee injury, as is defensive lineman Kyle Love. A couple of defensive backs are listed as questionable for Thursday, as Travell Dixon deals with a chest injury and Colin Jones continues to recover from a concussion.

The New Orleans Saints also have four players listed as questionable, plus one player who is already listed as out for Week 11. Linebacker Stephone Anthony and running back Daniel Lasco are both questionable with hamstring injuries. Linebacker Michael Mauti is dealing with an illness, while wide receiver Vincent Brown is being bothered by a calf injury. For undisclosed reasons, defensive lineman Mitchell Loewen will not be playing on Thursday.

Top Fantasy Football Picks For The Saints And The Panthers

According to standard fantasy football scoring provided by the NFL, the highest projected fantasy player from this week’s Thursday night game is New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees (18.84 points), with Carolina QB Cam Newton (17.94 points) not far behind. At wide receiver, Michael Thomas (13.50 points) of the Saints is projected to be the league’s No. 4 receiver for Week 11, while Panthers receivers Kelvin Benjamin (13.10 points) and Ted Ginn (11.00 points) are expected to be No. 7 and No. 17, respectively. Neither team has a running back projected to finish in the Top 25, with Mark Ingram at 7.70 points for New Orleans and Jonathan Stewart at 6.90 points for Carolina.

Panthers tight end Greg Olsen (12.20 points) is the second highest projected TE for Week 11, while Saints TE Coby Fleener (4.40 points) is projected at No. 20 for his position. Carolina kicker Graham Gano (12.00 points) is one of four men leading the pack for Week 11 at his position, while New Orleans placekicker Wil Lutz (3.00 points) is tied at No. 19 in the league. For defense, the Saints (5.00 points) have been forecast for a sixth-place, nine-way tie. Carolina is one of six defenses projected to score a single fantasy point or less in Week 11.

Vegas Odds — NFL Week 11

Early numbers have Carolina Panthers as 4-point favorites over the New Orleans Saints, according to the number at Football Locks. The over-under for Thursday night’s game between the Saints and Panthers is 51.5. New Orleans has been 9-4 against the spread when coming off of a loss, dating back to the beginning of the 2015 season. Meanwhile, Carolina has gone 3-6 ATS when facing divisional opponents within that same time frame.

The NFL Week 11 Thursday night football matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers will air live from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game will be televised on NBC and the NFL Network with coverage beginning at 8:25 p.m. EST. For fans on the road, the game can also be heard on Westwood One Sports radio.
