Romney Blimp Makes Crash Landing In Florida [Video]

Is this an ominous sign of things to come? A blimp promoting Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign was forced to make an emergency landing last night in Davie, Florida.

According to Raw Story, the blimp, which sported the words “America Needs Romney,” got caught in high winds and was forced to make a crash landing. The pilot tried to make it back to the airport but couldn’t control the blimp in the wind.

A witness told WSVN-TV:

“It was getting lower and lower … It was totally going down, it was just losing altitude. The wind was just taking it and taking it.”

Davie Police Department Captain Dale Engle said that no one was injured in the crash. Engle described the crash landing, saying:

“He came down tail first and then the gondola struck and then rolled to its side and deflated. It may not be breezy here on the ground, but when you get [to] 1000 feet, which this thing does operate at, I think the current is a lot different … It experienced some high winds and was having a difficult time … They were experiencing some problems due to the wind which forced them to crash land here in the field.”

NBC reports that the blimp left Boca Raton, the location of the third and final presidential debate, on Friday and was headed about 30 miles south to Pembroke Pines. The Romney blimp crashed about five miles short of its destination.

Here’s a video report of the incident.
