Melissa McCarthy Stuns With 75-Lb Low-Carb Diet Weight Loss: New Study Shows High Protein Power

Melissa McCarthy has delighted her fans for years with her comedic talents. Now McCarthy is returning in the Gilmore Girls revival, and the reboot gives her followers the opportunity to be dazzled by Melissa’s talent as well as her stunning 75-pound weight loss. McCarthy reportedly credits a high-protein, low-carb diet plus exercise for helping her slim down.

Returning in her role as Sookie, Melissa is one of the co-stars in the revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. But the big difference since the last time viewers watched McCarthy in the original show is her 75-pound slim-down success, pointed out Foods4BetterHealth.

McCarthy turned to fitness, including resistance training, and a diet low in carbohydrates and high in protein, according to the media outlet. Melissa also reportedly sipped green tea to help boost her metabolism and emphasized vegetables, certain fruits, and a variety of protein, ranging from turkey to fish to eggs.

A sample day in McCarthy’s diet as described by Foods4BetterHealth may get a kick-start from a kale smoothie, with a breakfast featuring grilled chicken, eggs, and almond milk. Lunch for the celebrity weight loss winner also reportedly might include more chicken, along with a quinoa blend made with vegetables. Melissa’s dinner could consist of grass-fed beef, avocado, and more vegetables, while a snack might star fish and vegetables.

As for her fitness plan details, McCarthy’s personal trainer shared that the actress included martial arts and kickboxing in her exercise routine, noted the Vine Report.

Melissa’s weight loss exercise regimen also incorporates skipping rope, squats, push-ups, jumping jacks, and even burpees, added the media outlet.

When it comes to winning the weight loss war like Melissa, a new study revealed how protein can help dieters like McCarthy shed pounds.

“A number of studies have suggested a diet high in protein can aid weight loss,” Medical News Today told readers.

Research conducted previously showed how high protein diets that include “essential nutrients found in foods such as milk, fish, eggs, and poultry…can help reduce body weight by suppressing appetite,” explained the media outlet. The new study provided more information on how a boost in protein works for weight loss, which could help to develop future methods of targeting obesity.

Lead author Mariana Norton and her team have now unveiled the way in which phenylalanine, which is an amino acid that digesting protein produces, raises levels of a hormone that signals to the body that is full. The result is a reduction in the intake of food.

The study showed that when rats and mice received phenylalanine, they benefited from higher levels of a hormone that reduces appetite (GLP-1) and lower levels of a hormone that boosts hunger (ghrelin). In addition, the researchers discovered that phenylalanine boosted the lab animals’ weight loss and lowered their intake of food.

The discovery of just how protein reduces hunger may result in weight loss plans that are easier to follow, according to Medical News Today.

Beyond that combination of a high-protein, low-carb diet and fitness routine, Melissa revealed her “real secret,” reported Hollywood Life.

“The real secret is a super-boring life. You go to bed at 7:30[pm]. That’s the trick,” said McCarthy.

As for what Melissa wants to pass onto her daughters, however, it’s all about self-esteem.

“A biggie for me is, take the compliment.”

McCarthy seeks to share with her young girls Vivian and Georgette her own rule, which is to express thanks for compliments rather than “negate” them, she clarified.

“It’s kind of a rule with me — just say thank you, don’t negate it,” emphasized Melissa. “I hope that’s one of the many ways I show my girls that it’s OK to like who you are and it’s ok that everybody’s different. If we were all the same, we’d be robots.”
