Toriko: Gourmet Battle, the popular manga featured in Weekly Shonen Jump, is coming to an end. According to reports, the final chapter of the manga will be right after the “climax” chapter.

According to an article by Anime News Network, Toriko: Gourmet Battle will come to an end in the 50th issue of this year’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on November 21. The last chapter is said to have a color opening page, as well as being the first (and apparently only) chapter to be released right after the “climax.”

For those who do not know much about Toriko: Gourmet Battle, it is best-described as a manga that utilizes the popular concept of monster hunting made popular by Capcom’s popular game Monster Hunter, and incorporates food. Pretty much, what you hunt is what you eat. Viz Media, the company that publishes the manga in North America, actually has an excellent synopsis detailing what Toriko: Gourmet Battle is all about.

“In a savage world ruled by the pursuit of the most delicious foods, it’s either eat or be eaten!

“Gourmet Hunter Toriko! This is the great era of gourmet food! And only Toriko can hunt down the ferocious ingredients that supply the world’s best restaurants. As a gourmet hunter, Toriko tracks and defeats the tastiest and most dangerous animals with his bare hands.”

To be fair, it was only a matter of time until Toriko: Gourmet Battle came to an end. Though it was quite popular when it was initially introduced, it has waned in popularity over the years. First published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2008, the manga has survived eight years with the 41st compiled book volume being published on October 4 of this year. Viz Media publishes new chapters of the manga digitally in simultaneous cooperation with the Japanese release in its digital English version for Weekly Shonen Jump.

The conclusion for Toriko: Gourmet Battle was technically known beforehand, as it was announced that the “climax” would begin in this year’s 49th issue ofWeekly Shonen Jump. When it comes to manga and anime, whenever the word “climax” is used, it usually refers to the final chapter. Even when written in the phonetic katakana alphabet, it refers to an ending. The expanded “full course” chapter will be about 31 pages long.

Even though the Toriko: Gourmet Battle manga is coming to an end, it does leave behind quite a legacy. Along with the 391 chapters written in manga so far published into 41 tank?bon, there is an anime consisting of 147 episodes chronicling in beautiful anime style the adventures of Toriko and his gourmet partner, Komatsu, right before they explore a region consisting of over 70 percent of the world that has the most delicious ingredients known to man known as the Gourmet World. There are even two cross-over movies made, in which the characters of Toriko: Gourmet Battle paired up with the characters of One Piece. In the second movie, Dragon Ball Z characters joined the mix. Though not canon, they were very fun to watch and considered a “love letter” to fans who were devoted to all three series through thick and thin.

The “climax” of Toriko: Gourmet Battle is coming up very quickly. We will keep you all informed on what happens and how you can read the final chapters if you have kept up with the series.
