Stahl-Trump Interview: Up To 3 Million Deportations, Special Prosecutor For Clinton Possible [Video]

President-elect Donald J. Trump appeared in his first interview since being elected early Wednesday morning with Lesley Stahl of 60 Minutes. The Stahl-Trump 60 Minutes interview took place Friday afternoon in the New Yorker’s Manhattan penthouse.

Lesley Stahl started the Trump interview by congratulating the president-elect on his election win and asking him about talk that he wasn’t really serious about some of his policy proposals and if he had any regrets about things he had said about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Trump responded that some of his positions could be viewed as “opening bids for negotiation” and that he “can’t regret” anything that was said in the heat of the political campaign. The Republican noted that he had been the subject of attacks on the part of the Clinton campaign as well.

The Stahl-Trump interview then turned to the president-elect’s meeting with President Barack Obama in the White House on Thursday, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. Stahl asked if there was any “awkwardness” between Trump and the president.

Donald Trump described Obama as “very smart” and “terrific,” stating that the two discussed a number of “tough subjects,” including the Middle East, North Korea, and Obamacare. The president-elect stated that he was surprised with how little friction he perceived on the part of Obama.

“It’s going to be America first,” Donald Trump said to Lesley Stahl.

Trump held up “$6 trillion” spent fighting wars in the Middle East that could have been used to rebuild the nation as part of the problems of past administrations.

Stahl asked Trump with regard to the rhetoric he has employed.

“Sometimes you need a certain rhetoric to get people motivated.”

“Are you really going to build a wall?” Lesley Stahl asked.

The Inquisitr has previously featured reports of statements made by Republican Congressional aides that the Trump Mexican border wall plan may be “not realistic.”

“Yes,” answered Donald Trump.

The 60 Minutes host then pointed to the talk of the wall being seen as unrealistic and asked the Republican if he would be content with a fence.

“For certain areas I would, but in certain areas a wall is more appropriate,” the president-elect answered.

Stahl asked about Donald Trump’s plans to deport “millions and millions” of criminal undocumented immigrants, as previously reported by the Inquisitr.

Trump stated that he was going to get undocumented immigrants with criminal records, “gang members” and “drug dealers,” out of the United States.

“Probably two million, it could even be three million,” Donald Trump said about the number of deportees he envisions.

The president-elect went on the state that once the situation had become “normalized” that a “determination” would be made with regard to the fate of other undocumented immigrants. He described this second group of undocumented immigrants as “terrific people.”

Lesley Stahl asked Donald Trump about his meeting with Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan; about the one issue the two most agreed upon.

Trump stated that there were, in fact, three things he felt a connection with Ryan on: immigration, healthcare, and tax reform.

The 60 Minutes host then asked Donald Trump about lobbyists and his disdain for them, despite the fact that he has had dealings with them in the past and that his current transition team is stacked with lobbyists, including representatives of Verizon and the oil and gas industry.

“It’s the only people you have down there,” the president-elect sounded tired.

“We’re trying to clean up Washington.”

“How can you clean it…” Lesley Stahl started to ask before Trump stopped her.

“Everything down there… There are no people… They’re all people that work…” Donald Trump restarted his explanation four times.

“That’s the problem with the system. The system.”

The Republican named term limits and restrictions on foreign political donations as goals of his administration with regard to political corruption and influence-pedaling.

“We’re doing a lot of things to clean up the system,” Donald Trump stated.

With regard to the U.S. Supreme court, President-elect Trump pledged to appoint justices who are pro-life and pro-Second Amendment. He made clear his stance that he would support the overturning of Roe vs. Wade and individual states being left to mandate abortion laws on their own.

When asked if he was “scared” of the burden of the responsibility of becoming president of the United States, Donald Trump replied “No.” He went on to say that he “respects” the gravity of the responsibility.

With regard to protests against Trump’s election across the United States, Lesley Stahl asked the president-elect if he didn’t feel a need to “assuage” the fears of Americans, some protesting outside of Trump Tower, where the reported billionaire lives.

“I would tell them don’t be afraid. Absolutely,” Trump responded.

“But that’s not what your saying, I said it, ” Stahl explained to Trump.

Donald Trump then held up what he perceives as a “double standard;” that if Hillary Clinton had won the election and his supporters had protested that they would have been held to account in a different way.

“I’m very surprised to hear that,” the president-elect said with regard to reports of violence against Hispanics and Muslims in the days since his election.

Trump went on to say that he believes that the acts of violence and hate are being perpetrated by a “very small” minority among his supporters.

“Stop it,” Donald Trump looked directly at the 60 Minutes camera speaking to those perpetrating acts of violence and hatred in his name.

“It’s a great form of communication,” Donald Trump said with regard to his use of social media.

Lesley Stahl asked Donald Trump about his promise to appoint a special prosecutor to pursue criminal charges against Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server and have her jailed. Stahl cited the infamous chants of “lock her up” at Trump rallies across the United States.

“I’m going to think about it,” President-elect Trump stated.

“She did some bad things.”

Trump explained that he wanted to keep his focus on healthcare, immigration, the border, and jobs. He stated that he had no desire to “hurt them” and promised to give a “definitive” answer with regard to pursuing criminal charges against Clinton the next time he appears on 60 Minutes.

Melania then joined the president-elect for the second half of the Stahl-Trump interview.
