Hacks And Mods Ready For ‘Pokémon Sun’ And ‘Moon’ Launch

It looks like a couple of hacks, cheats, and mods are already ready for the launch of Pokémon Sun and Moon. Will Game Freak take serious steps against these cheating?

Cheating and hacking have always been this shadow hiding behind gamers since time immemorial. And with more and more people getting versed with the language of technology, more cheats and hacks make their way into every game–and Pokémon Sun and Moon is no exception to that.

Hardcore Pokémon fans would surely be aware that hacked Pokémon have been around for ages. In fact, it has become so widespread in the Pokémon community that more than a handful have at least tried dabbling in the dark arts that are hacking Pokémon.

Kotaku reports that Game Freak has never been as good as other devs like Rockstar when it comes to cracking down at cheaters Pokémon because of the myriad of ways to circumvent the game such as Game Shark, Action Replay, Powersaves, and various 3DS card readers and apps. In fact, hacked Pokémon have thrived, populating the Wonder Trade with at times ridiculously powerful Pokémon, which somehow evades the radar of Game Freak.

This time around, another Kotaku report confirms that PKHex, a Pokémon core series save editor, can now penetrate Pokémon Sun and Moon so we’re ready to flood the market with hacked Pokémon once Pokémon Sun and Moon releases this week.

While hacking is a normally frowned upon behavior by those who spend legitimate hours sweating through the game, Reddit members are already impressed that PKHex was able to hack into Pokémon Sun and Moon this early into its timeline. Reddit user Hydraxis567 notes that PKHex’s Pokémon Sun and Moon Save Data editor could be one of the first Save Data editors released even before the actual game.

As of writing, user Kaphotics at the Project Pokemon forums reveals that there are already tons of things you can tweak in your Pokémon Sun and Moon using PKHex, in addition to generating unbelievably powerful Pokémon. If you’re interested in trying it out in your Pokémon Sun And Moon demo, they have also already uploaded a tutorial for you. WWG reports that as early as now, people are already using PKHex to flood Wonder Trades with hacked and Shiny Pokemon.

Last year, Amino Apps reported that Game Freak has been trying to crack down on people generating hacked Pokémon. But despite these efforts, they failed to contain the hackers and the hacking community on the Pokémon games continued to thrive. So if you’re gearing up for Pokémon Sun and Moon coming out this week, then PKHex says you’re welcome.

On the subject of hacks and mods, if you’re feeling a little less frisky, then you can check out this more harmless hack that mods Pokémon Sun and Moon into churning out better visuals. Game Zone reports that a new no-line patch has made it into Pokémon Sun and Moon, modifying the game to remove outlines, ergo, creating a smoother, soft-cell shaded look. Check out YouTuber KazoWAR showcasing the no-line patch by Shiny Quagsire and TiniVi below.

Apparently, this no-line patch mod was done on an emulated Pokémon Sun and Moon. If Pokémon games could look this good, are you wondering why do we keep having pixel-like Pokémon games all this time? Users at YouTube speculate that unfortunately, Pokémon Sun and Moon runs on the 3DS, which is a 4-5-year-old handheld with 6MB total in VRAM. This is why the Nintendo 3DS can’t handle or won’t be able to run such a glorious resolution.

Will you try out these hacks when Pokémon Sun and Moon arrives on November 18?
