Samantha Barks Makes The Jump From Broadway To Hollywood In ‘Les Miserables’

Samantha Barks is earning accolades for Les Miserables even before the movie is released, highlighting the jump the 22-year-old has made from the Broadway stage to the big screen in Hollywood.

Barks is one of six honorees to receive a Hollywood Spotlight Award, which goes to the most promising film stars of the year, Broadway.com noted. In the highly anticipated adaptation of Les Miserables, Samantha Barks plays the role of Eponine.

Samantha Barks has some experience in the role. Last year she played Eponine in the London production of Les Miserables at the Queen’s Theatre.

The newest movie adaptation of Les Miserables was set for release earlier this year, but that release date was pushed back to December 25. That means it will compete with other Christmas releases at a time of year when many Oscar contenders come out.

Though Samantha Barks has made her name on the Broadway stage, she joins the company of the movie industry’s up-and-comers with her Hollywood Spotlight Award, The Hollywood Reporter noted. Other honorees include Bella Heathcote (Not Fade Away), Tom Holland (The Impossible), John Magaro (Not Fade Away), Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), and Kelly Reilly (Flight). Previous winners include Robert Pattinson, Mila Kunis, and Leighton Meester.

Samantha Barks caught her big break when she finished in the top three of I’d Do Anything, a realty show to find the actress who would play Nancy in the play Oliver! She has also appeared alongside Nick Jonas in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
