Chelsea Clinton Reportedly Being Groomed For Congress Following Hillary’s Surprising Loss

The Clinton political dynasty may not be over, despite Hillary’s difficult presidential loss. The Clintons are reportedly grooming daughter Chelsea Clinton for her debut political run, which will reportedly take place when New York City’s 17th Congressional District Representative, Nita Lowey, 79, decides to retire.

The New York Post reports that the Clinton family is grooming Chelsea Clinton for a congressional run in New York when Democrat Nita Lowey retires. The source speaking to the Post indicated that while Bill and Hillary Clinton need time to “regroup” following the devastating loss during the general election, it was noted that Chelsea is already being prepped as the next “extension” of the Clinton political brand.

“While it is true the Clintons need some time to regroup after Hillary’s crushing loss, they will not give up. Chelsea would be the next extension of the Clinton brand. In the past few years, she has taken a very visible role in the Clinton Foundation and on the campaign trail. While politics isn’t the life Hillary wanted for Chelsea, she chose to go on the campaign trail for her mother and has turned out to be very poised, articulate and comfortable with the visibility.”

The decision to enter politics is not something that Chelsea has shown a lot of interest in over the years; however, after taking a visible role in the Clinton Foundation, it was claimed that Chelsea was ready and comfortable to enter the spotlight as a politician. The source noted that Hillary didn’t want a life of politics for Chelsea, but that Chelsea chose the path for herself, choosing to make herself a fixture of Hillary’s presidential campaign.

According to MSN News, 36-year-old Chelsea Clinton is being considered to take a role in New York Congress after 79-year-old Nita Lowey decides to retire. While it may come as a surprise to many that Chelsea would be considering a political run of her own, it was pointed out that back in 2014, Chelsea expressed sadness that more people around her were not interested in political positions.

“I find it pretty discouraging that almost none of my friends think about running for public office as an option.”

Therefore, it seems the Chelsea may decide to follow her mother’s footsteps by entering the political realm. It should be noted that Chelsea currently has a residence in Manhattan which is not located within the 17th Congressional District boundaries. However, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s home in Chappaqua is within the district and the Clintons recently purchased a home next door to theirs. The home was reportedly purchased as a future residence for Chelsea, husband Marc Mezvinsky, and their two children, Charlotte and Aidan. With rumors of Chelsea’s potential new political aspirations, the move to Chappaqua with her family would likely indicate that the political run is forthcoming.

What do you think about the idea of Chelsea Clinton running for a position within the New York state Congress? Do you think the Clinton’s political dynasty is over, or will Chelsea step in and continue the family’s long political history? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
