NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Star Randy Gregory Fails Yet Another Drug Test, Faces Year-Long Suspension

Addiction can be a very serious thing. It might even prevent someone from making millions of dollars in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys gave Randy Gregory a great opportunity, and he has repeatedly squandered that away. The defensive end has done it again. Gregory has failed yet another drug test, as reported by CBS Sports.

When the NFL regular season started, the Dallas Cowboys knew that they would not have Randy Gregory available for the first four weeks. In September, they found out that their presumptive starting defensive end was not going to be available for another 10 games because he failed another drug test. At that point, Cowboys fans started wondering if Gregory could make his way back to the team at the end of the season and help them out in the playoffs.

Now, we all know for sure that Randy Gregory is definitely not going to be back to help the Dallas Cowboys. The team appears headed to the NFL Playoffs this season, thanks largely to the awesome contributions of rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. The fanbase has been filled with a ton of optimism this season, even more so than when DeMarco Murray had his record-breaking season with the Cowboys.

Back in May, when the four game suspension was announced by the NFL, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was quite supportive of Randy Gregory. He publicly stated that the former Nebraska Cornhuskers star was the best pass rusher to come out of the NCAA in the past two seasons. Jones also stated that the Cowboys really needed Gregory back on the field. The team has been quite supportive of the troubled player throughout the entire ordeal.

Reports have confirmed that Randy Gregory failed the drug test because of marijuana once again. It is the same drug that has caused him to fail all of the other tests. Sadly, this is the sixth time that Gregory has failed a drug test since joining the NFL. As supportive as the Dallas Cowboys have been with him, there is going to come a point in time where the franchise will need to move on and find someone that can get on the field to contribute.

Right now, the Dallas Cowboys have 18 sacks combined for the season. Though that puts them in the middle of the pack in the NFL, the season would be that much better if they had someone like Randy Gregory on the field.

Randy Gregory has a right to appeal the one-year suspension. However, very few people believe that he has a chance at winning that appeal, as he has repeatedly failed the drug tests administered by the NFL. When there is that much history with a player, the benefit of the doubt goes out the window. The smart move for Gregory would be to just accept his punishment and hope that there is a team in the National Football League that is willing to give him a chance after all these transgressions.

Sadly, Randy Gregory has played in 12 games since joining the NFL. He is going to be suspended for more games than he has actually played. That is a sad statistic for someone that is as talented as Gregory is. It is also sad that his career in the National Football League might end before he gets to even play his 13th game on the top level.

The story of Randy Gregory just keeps getting sadder and sadder. There are only so many chances that you get in the NFL.
