Will Kim Kardashian Become The Greta Garbo Of The Donald Trump Era?

Kim Kardashian is possibly the most famous woman alive, but following her ordeal in Paris, the first lady of the limelight has become something of a recluse.

Which begs the question – is the buxom star destined to become the Greta Garbo of the Donald Trump era?

For those cultural ignoramuses who are unaware of who Greta Garbo was, here’s an update.

Greta was a Swedish actress who made it massive in Hollywood during the 1920s and 1930s. The silver starlet became extremely renowned for her “luminous and unforgettable screen performances.”

After giving a commanding turn in 28 films, she turned her back on Hollywood at the age of 35 to become a reclusive art collector.

Despite being repeatedly begged to return to La La land, Greta said no and continued to shun publicly and its attendant vultures right up until the day she died in 1990, aged 84.

Even during her Hollywood heyday, Garbo was a disciple of solitude and its many mysteries. She avoided industry occasions like the plague, including many an Oscar ceremony where she herself was a nominee.

Publicity for Garbo was something to loathe, and she once famously said, “As early as I can remember, I have wanted to be alone. I detest crowds, don’t like many people.”

On the other hand, publicity for the Kardashian clan has always appeared as something to furiously slither after and slyly covet in the sort of no-holds and grasping manner which would make Narcissus blush.

We should, however, bear in mind that the entire tribe of self-absorbed fame junkies are but products of the social media age, where over-sharing and complete abandonment of all sense of privacy are essential requirements in becoming a fully-fledged member of the global village.

Yet as we all know, fame, fatal fame, turned around and bit Kim on her ample behind earlier this year, when she was put through a frightful ordeal in Paris at the hands of a gang of armed robbers.

The criminals in question were aware of exactly where Kim would be, who she’d be with, and what she’d be doing, courtesy of her habit of updating the world in regard to her every movement.

Obviously, despite enjoying the fame of a small divinity, Kim is behind the mask of expensive make-up and celebrity mysticism, only human, and is reportedly having “daily therapy sessions” to help her recover from the trauma she suffered during the Paris robbery.

For someone who enjoyed sharing photos of her butt with the world on a weekly basis, the 36-year-old has maintained an uncharacteristically low profile on both social media and what in old money used to be called the real world, since she was robbed at gun-point.

“The robbery made her reevaluate what’s important in life. She will be more careful and more private now,” an insider told U.S. Weekly

Garbo was only 35 when she slipped off the radar, Kardashian is but a year older. Has the fickle hand of fate decreed that during the Trump era, Kim will become but an elusive haunting of the celeb she once was?

Indeed, will it transpire that the orange man’s unlikely ascent into the hallowed halls of the White House has been enough for a Clinton-endorsing Kim to turn her back on the world of stardom for good?

As we all know, when Trump became immortal earlier this week, it was met with howls of outrage and tears of self-interest by many folks. Not least the famous and rich ones.

In the aftermath of what overtly emotional dramatic types like to refer to as the “Trumpocalypse,” celebrity after celebrity shared their pain with the world and indulged in gratuitous acts of emotional incontinence.

Naturally, it was all shared on social media for the betterment of mankind. Miley Cyrus and Perez Hilton issued videos of themselves profusely weeping so we could all empathize together and cry in the face of the big bad wolf in a group sob.

The emotionalism of the response by the celebrities and hordes of other Trump hating hot-heads was intense. It appeared that everyone who voted for the Donald was either a racist, a sexist, a bigot, or just plain dumb.

Trump was denounced as a fascist, and everyone who voted for him was dehumanized as Nazi scum, as protesters gathered in huge crowds to go rioting in the streets, smash up public property, and burn things to prove what reasonable and democratic people they were.

Of course. Celebrities weren’t about to get their hands dirty in such a plebeian fashion, so they just posted knowing statements and sad faces on social media to prove they felt the common people’s pain.

All, that is, except Kim Kardashian. Maintaining, perhaps for the first time in her adult life, a dignified silence, Kim has yet to venture forth from the shadows of her solitude. Leading many to suspect that under Donald Trump, Kim really will become the Greta Garbo of our times.
