NeNe Leakes Secret Bankruptcy Exposed! Former ‘RHOA’ Star Not So Rich
NeNe Leakes isn’t so rich after all. The former Real Housewives of Atlanta star, who famously boasted that she was a “rich b***h,” owes a lot of money in taxes and even declared bankruptcy in the past. Will these latest money woes spell disaster for the reality star?
According to Radar Online, Leakes owes the government over $1 million in taxes. Even more revealing, Leakes filed bankruptcy back in 1996 because she was over $30,000 in debt. Her outstanding debts included a car loan for $27,000 and student loans that amounted to $2,000.
The former stripper now lives in a multi-million dollar home in Atlanta, but back in 1996, she claimed her property value was $0. Leakes, then a struggling single mom, got out of her predicament when she married Gregg Leakes.
Gregg was a successful real estate investor, and the couple tied the knot in 1997. Their marriage ended in 2010, though the couple reconciled and got back together in 2012. Leakes’ bankruptcy case never proceeded beyond the courtroom and was dismissed a month after filing.
With Leakes facing more money troubles, fans are left wondering if she will return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta for a steady paycheck. Leakes’ future with the show is uncertain, but BET is reporting that hasn’t stopped her from feuding with former co-stars.
During a recent appearance at a comedy show, a fan in the crowd heckled Leakes about her constant fighting with Porsha Williams. In response, Leakes lashed out and denied feuding with Williams, asking the fan to “please get their information right.”
“You wanna asked me why I am hating on Porsha. You tell me when you seen me hate on Porsha,” she asked. “If you wanna know who the real hater is – watch Dish Nation, b***h.”
Leakes clearly didn’t hold back with the allegations. But does that mean she is ready to re-join the series in Season 9?
According to Bustle, Leakes is not listed as a cast member next season, although there is a possibility she could make a random cameo. In Season 8, Leakes was not a full-time cast member, but she did make an appearance during a group vacation to Jamaica. She also made a cameo during the reunion and a few other episodes in the season.
After Leakes announced her departure from the series in 2015, host Andy Cohen revealed that she was always welcome to return whenever she wants. Unfortunately, there’s no telling if that means Leakes will make a surprise visit to the set in Season 9 or if she will stay away entirely.
Fans are still holding out hope that Leakes will make a cameo, but an insider revealed that the former reality star is simply too busy for a full-time commitment. The source admitted that “guest appearances are always a possibility,” but it doesn’t sound like Leakes will be a part of Season 9.
Of course, if NeNe Leakes is having money problems, then a return to RHOA might be in order. According to Romper, the reality star pulled down $2 million per season, which is far more than anyone in the franchise. Even a short cameo here and there would generate a lot of money for Leakes.
Unfortunately, Leakes recently told fans on Twitter that she will not be back for Season 9.
“RT @KiNG_Vincent_: @NeNeLeakes so that means you’re not coming back < I am NOT on season 9,” Leakes wrote, later added, “I wasn’t asked 2 b a full-time housewife or part time but they got Sheree & I think Kim Z.”
While Leakes may not make an appearance on RHOA anytime soon, Page Six reports that she is now neighbors with Williams. The RHOA star just purchased a $1.5 million mansion that is less than a two-minute ride from Leakes.
The mansion contains five bedrooms, a library, and five fireplaces. The property also sits on a golf course and features a creek. Williams purchased the home for less than the asking price of $1.275 million, although the exact selling price is unknown.
Williams was formerly married to Kordell Stewart. She divorced the former NFL star back in 2013.
Not to be outdone, Leakes’ home is worth $2 million and was constructed back in 2014. The massive house boasts six bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, and a large four-car garage. Leakes lives in the home with her husband and two children. They moved in just last year.
With Leakes and Williams now living close to each other, there is a possibility that they could spark up a friendship. Whether or not this leads to Leakes making a cameo on the show is yet to be determined.
