Will Barron Trump Attend The Same School That The Obama And Clinton Kids Did In Washington, D.C.?

Will Barron Trump attend the same school that daughters of the Obamas’ and Clintons’ did in Washington, D.C.? Donald Trump, and his wife, Melania, are about to move to Washington and bring with them their 10-year-old son. Barron currently attends Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School in Manhattan’s Upper West Side as a fourth grader where annual tuition is over $45,000. As of January 20, 2017, Barron’s world will drastically change when his father is sworn in as president of the United States.

The Washington Post interviewed different educational experts who are weighing in on where Barron Trump may attend school in Washington during Trump’s presidency.

According to educational consultant Steven Roy Goodman, it’s unlikely young Barron will attend the same school that Chelsea Clinton, Malia Obama, and Sasha Obama attended — Sidwell Friends.

“It’s associated with the liberal intelligentsia of Washington,” said Goodman, who assists high profile parents in deciding which private school is the best for their children.

The same is said about the Washington International School, which has an “internationalist philosophy might not jibe with Trump’s build-the-wall ethos.”

Another private school that several first kids have attended is the Quaker Institution in upper Washington, D.C. There’s also some schools in Virginia that may better suit the Trumps, according to Goodman.

“Given what I know about President-elect Trump, which is that he comes from more of a traditional, classic background, I think that might lead you to Virginia schools,” he said.

Goodman mentions a few other schools for Barron Trump that his parents may potentially consider when they reside in Washington, D.C., such as St. Stephens and Agnes, or Burgundy Farm Country Day School in Alexandria — or Westminster in Annandale. He notes that the commute for the Secret Service could be a drawback.

A closer alternative would be St. Alban’s, the all-boys school near the Washington National Cathedral due to its proximity to the White House. St. Anselm’s Abbey in Northeast and Potomac School in McLean have also had their share of political kids attend school there.

Leigh Ann Cahill of the consulting group Independent School Options believes its in Barron Trump’s best interests to enroll him in an educational facility akin to what he’s attending now. Columbia is a “coed, secular school that’s not thought of as one of Manhattan’s academic pressure-cookers.”

Cahill touches on The Landon School as being an appropriate choice for the Trumps as well. It’s an all-boys institution, however, and not coed like the private school he’s attending now. Cahill continued that a “religion-lite” option would be St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day.

Whichever school Barron Trump attends in Washington, D.C., he’s bound to endure some “social bumps,” Cahill claims. Since the campaign was so intense and divisive, the 10-year-old “might find that there’s a level of awareness and even commitment among his classmates,” she says. “It’s not necessarily like that in New York.”

It’s entirely possible that Barron will remain in Manhattan and continue school where he’s at. According to ABC News, it’s not a requirement for the first family to reside in the White House. Donald and Melania Trump may opt to live in their Washington, D.C.-based Trump hotel that was just built down the road from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, or stay in their New York City penthouse.

Melania said she wants to keep her son out of the spotlight as much as possible for now. Barron Trump loves the private school he’s in, is a great athlete, and enjoys sports. If the Trumps don’t want to disrupt their son’s current norm, they might arrange to keep things as they are for him.
