Alleged Serial Killer Preyed On Young Couples, Two More Bodies Identified As Married Couple

Todd Kohlhepp allegedly kidnapped a South Carolina couple, Kala Brown and Charlie Carver, in August, and it reportedly wasn’t his first time targeting couples, police have stated. The most recently identified bodies on the property of the accused are those of Meagan and Johnny Coxie, another young couple who were parents to a small child.

The most recently determined victims were identified by their tattoos. It is suspected that the 25- and 29-year-old were likely buried on the property ever since they went missing in mid-December of 2015. According to a coroner’s report, Meagan had been shot in the head while Johnny was said to have been shot in the torso. The couple had just welcomed a new baby ahead of their murders.

Friends spoke about the couple, reflecting that they had their share of troubles, but were in love. The Daily Beast notes that Meagan’s Facebook page indicates that she and Johnny had been married in 2012. The page verifies that the couple was truly affectionate and in love. However, the couple reportedly struggled financially, often turning to panhandling to make money, as police state. Both had been arrested as well. Meagan was arrested on December 18 for child neglect, and she was bonded out of jail by her mother. She told her mother that she had a job set up and needed to be out from behind bars. Johnny was arrested for unauthorized solicitation and for giving false information to police.

It is unknown as to whether Meagan actually began the job she spoke of to her mother. She and Johnny were reported as missing on December 22 after they stopped returning messages to family.

These latest victims bring the alleged killings by Kohlhepp to seven. He was arrested on November 3 at his property in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, following a search for Brown and Carver, who had gone to his property in late August to help Kohlhepp with a cleaning job. Investigators found Brown alive and locked in a shipping container where she had been kept for over two months. Carver was found buried nearby, and it was determined he had died of gunshot wounds.

Just like Brown and Carver, the Coxies were also a young couple who were searching for work. Brown and Carver were reportedly kidnapped after being hired by the accused to help clean the properties he managed as a real estate agent. Investigators are attempting to determine whether Kohlhepp used his real estate business to lure victims to his property

Once Brown was rescued, police were led around the property by the suspect who pointed out the graves of his victims and called them by name. The families of the victims are grieving, so a local pastor was asked by the loved ones to speak on their behalf. Pastor Karyl Gaehring shared a statement.

“Cindy and I have known one another for a few years now. She came about a year ago requesting prayer for her son Johnny and his wife Meagan who were missing. We have been praying for about a year now that they would be found and we would know what happened. “Today they received the news. The family is in shock, grieving, and are not comfortable talking to anyone at this time. They have asked for people to please try and understand and give them time to heal. They appreciate everyone’s love and concern.”

The alleged killer has managed to elude police over the years, as he is also connected to the Superbike Killings of 2003 and has allegedly confessed to the quadruple homicide of four employees at the South Carolina motorcycle shop. The seven killings have left police attempting to determine motive and have left victims’ families wondering why their loved ones were targeted.
