‘Guild Wars 2’ Celebrates Halloween With ‘Shadow Of The Mad King’ Content Update

Halloween is nearly here and ArenaNet has a spooky holiday celebration planned for all the brave gamers who play Guild Wars 2, featuring the introduction of the Shadow of the Mad King update. The new content will be delivered in four installments, starting on October 23, 2012 with Act One; followed by Act Two on October 26th, Act Three on October 28th, and Act Four on October 31st.

Gamers will be subjected to all sorts of mayhem while they await the appearance of the Mad King himself on All Hallows Eve. There will be quests, costumes, free devil horns, special skills, mysterious potions and enough new minis to fill every player’s bag with Halloween surprises. The in-game store is sure to be packed with customers, anxious to get in on the fun. In order to make sure no one is left out, the item shop will continue to provide all the offerings from the Shadow of the Mad King until November 5, 2012.

The game’s developers put together a terrific (or is that terror-ific) new video for you to enjoy. Its witty, its wild, and its wonderful, so take a sneak peek at the fun to come when the Mad King arrives. It wont be long now and you may want to sharpen your weapons and stock up on treats for your favorite Norn, Asura, Sylvari, Charr, or Human. After all, you wouldn’t want to suffer a trick at the hands of a disappointed Charr Warrior or have an Ausra Golem waiting to ask you why you refused to give any candy to the kids, now would you?

In case you can”t wait to find out the details of the first Guild Wars 2 content update, here is the text of the official Shadow of the Mad King Announcement:

Shadow of the Mad King”

“500 years ago, a tyrannical Krytan king was slain by his own people, those who had suffered greatly during his reign of lunacy. It is said that this king’s body was chopped into pieces, and his spirit was banished to the Underworld, but that he can return to the mortal realm for just one day a year: on Halloween.”

“Of course, that’s just an old folktale. Isn’t it?”

“It’s been 250 years since the last alleged sighting of Mad King Thorn’s spirit, and today, Halloween is safely celebrated by children (and merchants) all across Tyria.”

“‘But! Strange energies are rising under the autumn moon. Is there perhaps some truth to the old stories? Do you dare to find out what’s really going on?”

“Shadow of the Mad King runs from October 22 until November 1 in four frightful acts:”

“Act 1: Begins October 22”
“Act 2: October 26”
“Act 3: October 28”
“Act 4: October 31”
