Ian Somerhalder In ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’? Could Actor Replace Jamie Dornan In Sequels?

Is Ian Somerhalder going to replace Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades Of Grey? It’s something that has been reported from time to time and it makes Ian fans super happy — but it’s probably just not true. Here’s what’s up.

According to Hollywood Life, there has been some increased chatter about having Ian Somerhalder take over for Jamie Dornan, portraying the role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades Of Grey sequels. The issue is that the movies have already been filmed. The report cites a recent interview in which Dornan was asked about the rumor. Although Dornan’s response seemed sort of curious, if you will, he pretty much confirmed that the movies have already wrapped and that he’s in both of them.

“That would be really hard for them to do considering we’ve shot them both. That’s an expensive mistake, I’ll put it that way. But good luck to him,” Jamie told Jimmy Kimmel.

If you remember back to the Fifty Shades Of Grey casting rumors, Ian Somerhalder was a favorite amongst fans. It’s still unclear if he was ever actually in the running.

Ian Somerhalder would have been the perfect Christian Grey as he had that ideal smolder (hence his nickname, Smolderhalder). Fans would have loved to see him take on the role and would have really enjoyed watching him get down and dirty on screen, but he wasn’t chosen for the job.

Jamie Dornan took on the role as Christian Grey, which didn’t win over fans of the books immediately. Many were worried that he wouldn’t do the role justice and that he would lack that super mysterious, sexy persona needed to play Mr. Grey. After seeing the movie, opinions still varied. Some people thought that Dornan nailed the character while others thought that something was still lacking.

Dornan went on to talk to Jimmy Kimmel about the Fifty Shades Of Grey sequels.

“Jamie also joked that the upcoming two films are going to ‘ruin the franchise,’ which does tend to happen with sequels. But, we were super impressed by the recently-released trailer footage, so we have faith that the actor and Dakota Johnson will be able to keep us interested as the story about Christian and Anastasia continues!”

Fifty Shades Darker will be released on February 10, 2017, two years after the first film was released (it came out on Valentine’s Day 2015).

Ian Somerhalder has been far less chatty about the Fifty Shades rumors and doesn’t seem to put too much thought into the gossip. Instead, he has been talking about the 2016 election. According to Variety, Ian mentioned the election recently and actually said that he wouldn’t want to live here if there was an unfit president.

“That’s not me playing up American exceptionalism. It has to do everything with our foreign policy and our understanding of the environment. Any person that potentially has the position of being President of the United States who thinks climate disruption is a hoax created by the Chinese doesn’t deserve to be in that seat. It’s just a simple fact. I think about the America I could potentially be raising my children in, and I don’t know. I don’t know if I would actually want to stay here. It’s extreme, but I love this country. I want nothing but the best for this country,” Somerhalder said.

Ian Somerhalder could someday end up running for office and that seems like it’s far more likely than him replacing Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades Of Grey sequels.

Would you have liked to see Ian portray Christian Grey? Do you think Jamie Dornan did a good job filling the role?
