Fergie and Josh Duhamel are old married people; the couple wed back in 2009 and dated for a full five years before tying the knot, a veritable lifelong coupling for famous people, who swap partners like some of us switch Starbucks orders.
Josh Duhamel is an actor and Fergie one part of the musical outfit Black-Eyed Peas. And the pair have weathered significant tabloid heat, especially when Duhamel and Fergie were newlyweds, and rumors of infidelity shook the couple early on in their marriage.
Fergie, also known as Stacy Ferguson, sat down for an interview with talk-show queen Oprah to discuss the infidelity rumors as well as other topics, and the singer said that gossip about affairs was a difficult time in their relationship.
Of rumors Josh Duhamel cheated on her, Fergie said:
“It was difficult … When you go through difficult times, it really makes you stronger as a unit, as a partnership. It does for us, anyways. Our love today is a deeper love, definitely.”
Fergie said the early issues helped the couple learn to talk to one another, and she explained:
“We’re stronger today definitely because of anything difficult that’s happened with us … We deal with it, we communicate; communicating’s the most important thing.”
Josh Duhamel joined Oprah and Fergie later in the sitdown, opening up about his appreciation for his wife’s talents, saying:
“Obviously I love to watch her perform and I love all the music, and I was attracted to her initially because of…how sexy she was and the hotness … But we haven’t been together for nine years because of that. It’s because she’s, you know…we grew up in very similar ways, you know?”
“We’ve both had to work for what we got. We’re both Catholic. There were a lot of things that were really compatible between us. But at the end of the day, she’s just an amazing girl.”
The interview airs as a part of Oprah’s Next Chapter this Sunday on OWN.
