Cake Wars is a competition based, reality game show where contestants have a limited time to complete a master cake according to the episode’s theme. Sometimes bakers pull off amazing creations and other times things go drastically wrong. Because the cakes are often out-of-this-world in decoration, height, and detail, it can be troublesome to move cakes from the bakers’ stations to the judge’s platforms. The competition is challenging because not only are bakers judged on the appearance and presentation of the cake, but also on the flavor and taste of the cake as well Sometimes cakes look amazing on the outside, but the flavors are bland. Other times the cake has a shabby outer appearance while the judges are dazzled by the delicious cake flavor. There are three judges, two regular (Ron Ben Israel and Waylynn Lucas) and a guest judge, who grade on both appearance and the cake’s taste. Each episode has rounds that are graded, and a losing contestant is eliminated until only two contestants remain and one is declared the $10,000 winner.
Cake Wars: Christmas operates the same way; however, each episode has a Christmas theme, and the grand prize is $50,000 instead of $10,000. Something that adds a unique flavor to Cake Wars is that each episode features three judges and one special guest judge. The guest judge is directly connected to the episode’s theme and the winning cake is featured at an official event sponsored or connected to the judge. For example, tonight’s new “Rugrats” episode will feature the voice of Tommy Pickles, E.G. Daily. Following the “Rugrats” episode is “Space Jam.” The guest judge for tonight’s “Space Jam” episode will be voice actor Bill Farmer, who has voiced Sylvester, Foghorn Leghorn, and Goofy.
