‘Dancing With The Stars’ Week 9: Will Injured Pros Sharna Burgess And Gleb Savchenko Return For Showstoppers Week?

Dancing With the Stars will hand out its 23rd mirrorball trophy in just three weeks, but two of the frontrunner pro dancers may not make it to the finals. Dancing With the Stars pros Sharna Burgess and Gleb Savchenko are both suffering from serious knee injuries, and things are not looking so good for either of them as the show heads to Week 9.

Burgess, who’s partnered with IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe on this season of Dancing With the Stars, told Entertainment Tonight she is doing everything in her power to make a return to the show after injuring her knee during rehearsals for last week’s group dance.

“I’m doing everything I can to get back as soon as I can,” Burgess told ET.

Hinchcliffe danced with Dancing With the Stars pro Jenna Johnson last Monday for a perfect-scoring Suicide Squad-themed dance for Halloween week, and Sharna has still been heavily involved in coaching the couple for this week’s Showstoppers routine.

Burgess has also been very proactive in the treatment of her injury. The dancer told E! News that she has every intention of finishing out this season of Dancing With the Stars.

“The trick is to really find the best treatment available and that’s what I did,” Sharna told E!.

“I made the really difficult choice to leave James for three days, go to Ohio and sought out the best available treatment in the country and as a result, I’m healing quicker than ever. I really do plan on being back next Monday. If these doctors tell me I can’t, apparently I have to listen to them. And if it’s not next Monday it will be on the one after that. Oh, I’m back.”

While Sharna is hopeful to finish out this season of Dancing with the Stars, TMZ reported that her injury is serious enough to sideline her for the rest of the season. The pro dancer’s doctors reportedly want her off of her feet for 3-6 weeks, but there are only three weeks left in the celebrity ballroom competition.

In addition to Burgess, Dancing With the Stars pro dancer Gleb Savchenko is nursing a serious knee injury just three weeks before the Season 23 finals. According to Us Weekly, Gleb has been trying to rehab his knee all week, but he may not be recovered in time for this week’s show—at least if he follows his doctor’s orders.

“Doctors have advised Gleb to rest his knee,” a Dancing With the Stars rep told Us Weekly in a statement. “In the meantime, he is helping Jana as she continues to rehearse for Monday’s show.”

Gleb, who is partnered with country singer Jana Kramer, has been coaching the DWTS frontrunner and troupe member Alan Bersten. While Savchenko posted to Instagram that he hopes to be able to dance with Jana this week (his post included a pic that showed him wearing knee brace and looking very sad), in a recent SnapChat, Kramer hinted that her partner might not be back for Showstoppers week, where they are scheduled to dance the waltz to the song “She Used to Be Mine” from the Broadway musical Waitress.

“I don’t know if Gleb’s going to be OK, but it’s not looking good,” Kramer told fans.
