Dolly Parton has warned her fans not to expect her on a Broadway stage anytime soon.

In an interview with The Daily Express, the 66-year-old country music legend said she had ruled out Broadway as she felt her voice wouldn’t be able to cope with a lengthy period of performing on the stage. Parton told the British newspaper:

“I’m always amazed by the people who work on stage, that sing night after night, day after day, week in week out. I don’t have that kind of voice, I really don’t think my voice would hold up to do a show like that. That’s one of the reasons I’ve never been on Broadway. But I do take care of my voice.”

Yet that hasn’t kept Dolly Parton away from the theater entirely. The singer, who has carved out a career in music spanning more than five decades, remains a huge fan of the theater and wrote the music and lyrics for her production 9 to 5: The Musical. Her writing on the show even earned her a nomination for a prestigious Tony Award.

Yet it won’t be Parton belting out her own tunes on a stage near you; instead, the show stars Natalie Casey, Jackie Clune, Bonnie Langford, and Amy Lennox. Lennox fills Dolly’s shoes as the main character, the downtrodden secretary Doralee Rhodes.

The show follows Doralee and her workmates as they take over the company they work for and get revenge on their sexist boss.
