Emma Watson Criticized For Anti Feminism, But Shines As Belle In ‘Beauty And The Beast’: ‘Harry Potter’ Star Uses Twitter To Promote

Emma Watson has been the ambassador for women’s issues for UN, but she was recently criticized for her anti-feminism. The Beauty and the Beast actress was caught in an after-party requesting a song that alluded to date rape, which got the fans, who were initially excited about her feminist portrayal of Belle, disappointed.

The 26-year-old Harry Potter star had been using her year off to engage in some fulfilling work. Not only did she start a feminist book club on her Twitter to get her fans interested in reading works that enlighten them on being a woman in today’s society, but she also has been working overtime to promote her UN campaign, HeForShe.

So it came as a surprise to her fans when she requested a seemingly anti-feminist song at a party.

“When the Harry Potter star was allowed to choose the final song of the evening at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of The Year after-party at Claridge’s last week, she selected a controversial rap that alludes to date-rape,” reports Daily Mail. “My spies tell me that when organizers announced that the party was about to finish, Emma, right, joined a chorus of people chanting: ‘One more song!’ Eventually, the DJ relented and allowed Emma to choose one more track.”

“[S]he didn’t hesitate to request ‘Timber’ by American rapper Pitbull,” the report continued. “The song is about the protagonist trying to get women so drunk that they will sleep with him, despite having previously turned him down when sober.”

Some fans have been on the more forgiving side, saying that in the atmosphere of the party, she may not have been fully aware of the nature of the song. However, her choice of the song kicked up some negative PR around her, which undoubtedly is affecting her Beauty and the Beast promotion as well.

She recently posted a picture of the cover she did for Entertainment Weekly, which featured her in Belle’s iconic yellow dress.

The dress is all that Beauty and the Beast fans could talk about, so she made sure to respond to the public’s interest in the interview.

“I really embraced working on the dress, making sure that it was utterly whimsical and magical,” she said, according to Harper’s Bazaar. “The scene that I wear that dress in, and I have that dance in, it really tells the story of Beast and Belle falling in love. You know, we don’t have a huge amount of time in the story to tell that story. The dance, for me, is really where the audience starts to see it happening and starts knowing that it is happening. The dress, and the dancing, and the candlelight, and the music — it was really fun to work on every aspect of that.”

While her professional life is gaining some wanted and some unwanted attention, it looks like her personal life is rather calm. She has not been seen with her rumored boyfriend William Knight in months, which may mean that they ended their relationship. The only male that she has been seen hanging out with recently was her co-star Daniel Bruhl from The Colony.

“[D]espite living on separate sides of the world, Emma Watson and Daniel Bruehl managed to reunite in Berlin on Friday,” reports Daily Mail. “With Daniel’s girlfriend pregnant with their first child, the pair seemed to be celebrating the good news with a toast, as they nursed glasses of white wine over the bar.”
