NBA Score: New York Knicks Lose To Utah Jazz Despite Big Games From Kristaps Porzingis And Carmelo Anthony

In most instances, when the New York Knicks have a big game from both Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, the end result should be a victory. However, that was not the case on Sunday afternoon. The Utah Jazz defeated the Knicks by a score of 114-109, as reported by ESPN.

Utah Jazz Starters

Gordon Hayward finally made his debut this season after missing the preseason and the regular season due to a finger injury. He came back with a vengeance. In his first game back, he scored 28 points and grabbed five rebounds. His shooting was not that great, but Hayward did make it to the free throw line 14 times. He nailed all 14 of those free throw attempts. The Utah Jazz were doing quite well before his return, so his presence should help the team even more so than normal.

George Hill and Rodney Hood continue to prove to the NBA that they are one of the best backcourts in the game. Against the New York Knicks, the tandem combined for 41 points, eight rebounds, 13 assists and three steals. Hill and Hood were quietly dominating the league, but they should be even more dangerous now that Gordon Hayward is back in the lineup.

Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert combined to have a pretty good night. The starting power forward and center teamed up for 26 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks, and a steal. Favors and Gobert also shot pretty efficiently, while staying out of the way of the perimeter players.

Utah Jazz Bench

When Joe Johnson decided to leave the Miami Heat in free agency to sign with the Utah Jazz, he knew that he would eventually be a bench player once Gordon Hayward was healthy again. On Sunday, it was his first chance at the backup role. Johnson produced 10 points off the bench and also contributed in other areas.

Shelvin Mack, Dante Exum, Joe Ingles, and Trey Lyles were given some minutes off the bench by Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder, but none of them were able to make much of a contribution.

New York Knick Starters

Despite missing all six of his shot attempts from beyond the three-point line, Carmelo Anthony still managed to put up 28 points. He also had nine rebounds and three assists. Usually, that makes it hard to beat the New York Knicks, but on Sunday, it was not nearly enough.

Kristaps Porzingis also had 28 points. He managed to hit three of the seven shots that he took from the outside. Porzingis also nailed all five of his free throw attempts. The Latvian forward also had eight rebounds and two blocks. It was one of the better outings for Porzingis, but it was not enough to pick up a victory for the Knicks.

Derrick Rose and Courtney Lee combined for a pretty solid night. The starting guards for the New York Knicks had 28 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. Lee made both of his outside shot attempts, while Rose wisely took all of his shots inside of the paint.

Joakim Noah had a pretty quiet night. The New York Knicks’ starting center knew that he would have a couple of nights where he was not going to be featured much.

New York Knicks Bench

There was not a lot of production off of the bench for the New York Knicks. Lance Thomas was given 29 minutes, but he did not make a major impact. Thomas has been in the spotlight this season because he was handed a huge contract and has yet to make it seem like a good move for the franchise.
