Potty-Trained 4-Month-Old Baby? Kandi Burruss Defends Potty-Training Little Ace On ‘RHOA’ [Video]

Kandi Burruss defended her decision to potty train her son Ace Wells Tucker, who can be seen in the below photo with Ace’s dad, Todd Tucker, sitting on the potty as a four-month-old baby. The season premiere of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, as reported by Bravo, featured plenty of juicy storylines. But one that stood out was seeing such a young baby being potty-trained.

For her part, Kandi said she didn’t see anything wrong with potty-training her baby at such a young age.

As seen in the photo from Todd’s Instagram post, Tucker claimed that Ace already makes it through the night without wetting his diaper, so Todd decided to put the little baby on the potty each morning to see if Ace would go. It turns out Ace was pretty proficient at peeing in the toilet. Who knew babies so young could be potty-trained?

According to experts, it can’t necessarily hurt to train a baby to go on the potty at such a young age. As reported by Parents, the benefits of training a baby to go on the potty instead of in their diapers means that more diapers are saved, which can save parents time and money.

Detractors don’t agree with those assessments, saying that trying to train a baby to go potty on the toilet is more like the parents are the ones being trained to “catch” the baby at the perfect time when they plan to go potty anyway — with claims that the babies aren’t actually learning to be potty-trained. Critics claim that potty-training babies could backfire by the time the babies reach one year of age or older, and potentially cause bed-wetting accidents to occur — or charge that parents are stealing the joy that older children feel from being potty-trained.

Either way, little Ace was the picture of potty-training success on Sunday’s episode of RHOA, with the baby being portrayed as a happy baby who wakes up smiling. Kandi did bemoan the fact that she does more of the baby-related work than her husband, Todd. Kandi claimed that their baby-work split was more like 70 percent Kandi versus 30 percent Todd, with claims that Todd didn’t want to get up in the middle of the night to change diapers. So perhaps Todd’s motivation to get little Ace potty-trained early has roots in something deeper — such as Todd not wanting to change dirty diapers.

Kandi complained that since her body was the one that had to undergo so many changes to accommodate their baby, at least Todd could make their baby duties more equitable.

No matter her complaints, Kandi seemed overjoyed with her and her husband’s new bundle of joy. She defended her potty-training on social media.

“Ok I know a lot of people are gonna talk trash because we have #Ace on the potty already but I did the same thing with @rileyburruss. I bought the baby toilet seat that fits on top of the toilet & for the past week we’ve been putting Ace on the toilet in the mornings. As soon as we sit him up there he pees. One time he pooped & peed. It helps to get them used to the concept early. I don’t expect him to be fully potty trained early but it does help. I’ve done it before so I’m speaking from experience. I’m not saying it will work for anyone else but this works for us. Today I didn’t get the diaper off quick enough & he started going as soon as I sat him on the toilet! He got me!”

Kandi noted how odd it was that when RHOA first began — at least when Kandi first began appearing on the show — she was one of the only single women on the show. Now the tables have turned, and Cynthia Bailey has gotten divorced, along with Porsha Williams and other RHOA ladies, leaving Kandi as one of the few married cast mates.
