South Carolina Serial Killer Todd Kohlhepp Caught: Kala Brown Arrest Solves 13-Year-Old ‘Superbike Murders’ Cold Case

Serial killer Todd Kohlhepp was arrested for the kidnapping of Kala Brown and the murder of her boyfriend Charlie Carver. He later admitted to seven more killings in South Carolina. Police put two and two together and were able to solve the 13-year-old “Superbike Murders” cold case that had left deputies stumped for years.

WYFF4 reported this morning that Todd Kohlhepp was charged with the murder of four people who were found shot to death at a place called Superbike Motorsports in South Carolina back in 2003.

The Spartanburg County sheriff said that Kohlhepp’s arrest had solved the cold case, which they had been investigating for over a decade.

According to reports, Kohlhepp was scheduled to have a bond hearing at 11 a.m. today. ABC News has stated that bond has been denied for the murder suspect.

Todd Kohlhepp appeared before a magistrate judge in Spartanburg on Sunday. Magistrate Judge Jimmy Henson said a circuit court could revisit the issue of bond at a later time.

Despite the seriousness of the charges against Kohlhepp, he sat in court without a lawyer and denied to speak when Henson offered him that chance to make a statement.

Family members of the victims from the 2003 killings were there. The 13-year-old case has finally had a break and the families can have some closure knowing that the man responsible was caught.

Terry Guy, whose wife and stepson were among those killed in 2003, spoke to reporters before entering Kohlhepp’s hearing. He believes that now he and the other victims’ families can now be at peace.

“I’m just so relieved.”

Beverly Guy, Scott Ponder, Brian Lucas, and Chris Sherbert were found shot to death inside Superbike Motorsports on November 6, 2003.

Kohlhepp reportedly took deputies back to his property to show them were two additional bodies were located. This cooperation happened after police had already found a body at the 95-acre site on Friday. The body was identified as the boyfriend of Kohlhepp’s kidnapping victim.

Melissa Ponder, the wife of one of the victims from the 2003 quadruple murder, also came forward once news broke that the case had been solved.

“I’m sad, relieved, and in shock.”

Tom and Lorraine Lucas lost their son Brian in 2003. He was the service manager who was gunned down inside of the store.

“We want to see the face. I want to look at him, and I want to try to use that in healing.”

Today marks the 13th anniversary of one of the most notorious unsolved crimes and now it has finally been solved.

Todd Kohlhepp was arrested on Thursday of last week when police found a woman on his property chained to a container. Kala Brown, along with her boyfriend, Charlie Carver, had been missing since August 30.

Police found 30-year-old Kala Brown on farmland in Woodruff, South Carolina inside a completely dark metal cage with chains around her neck and legs.

After being rescued, Kala Brown told police that Kohlhepp had murdered her 32-year-old boyfriend Charlie Carver and as many as three others that she knew of on the same property.

Earlier this year, before kidnapping Brown, Todd Kohlhepp was caught posting a troubling message on social media.

“(People need) to start appreciating the effort I put in to not be a serial killer.”

The 45-year-old later responded to his own post by asking, “Why? Serial killers need love too.”

Other incidents in Kohlhepp’s past signaled that this man was very troubled. He served time in prison from 1987 to 2001 after he had held a 14-year-old girl at gunpoint to have sex with him in 1986.

Kohlhepp was charged with four counts of murder in the notoriously unsolved “Superbike Murders” crime. He is also being charged with the kidnapping of Kala Brown and will most likely be charged with the murder of Charlie Carver as well.

This South Carolina serial killer is going to be locked up for good.
