Donald Trump Slams Barack Obama Over Completely Fictional North Carolina Screaming Match

Barack Obama defended a Donald Trump protester during a rally in North Carolina, but Donald Trump himself didn’t see it that way. While Obama was defending his supporters, Trump completely changed the narrative when the Republican candidate spoke at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Making up his own version of history isn’t new for Trump, who has frequently denied saying incorrect or inflammatory statements, but the timing of Trump’s attack on Obama is especially interesting right before election day. Media caught the entire exchange between Obama and the protester so there’s no room to say the president did anything inappropriate.

During Obama’s rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the crowd became distracted by an older white protester who stood up during Obama’s speech. Reuters reported that the Trump protester became visible after Obama said Trump was unfit to become president. The crowd quickly turned on the protester, who was wearing a suit jacket with military patches.

The Trump protester, who has remained unidentified, didn’t exhibit any violent tendencies during the North Carolina rally. The man stood up in the crowded auditorium and waved a Trump campaign sign. However, as the crowd became distracted, Obama called for order and defended the Trump supporter’s right to freedom of speech.

“Everybody sit down and be quiet for a second!” Obama said calling for the crowd to come to order. “You’ve got an older gentleman who is supporting his candidate,” President Obama stated. The Trump protester was quickly led away from the rest of the audience, but Obama continued to tout freedom of speech as an undeniable American right, no matter who a person may be voting for.

Obama continued, “We live in a country that respects free speech. It looks like he might have served in our military – we’ve got to respect that.” Obama went on to tell the crowd to focus and especially, “Don’t boo! Vote.” The Trump protester, although disruptive, gave Obama a chance to reassert his charm with his constituents and make a good impression at the North Carolina rally.

President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama have been some of Hillary Clinton’s best surrogates on the campaign trail. As his presidency comes to a close, Obama has allowed himself to speak more freely, which only works out in his favor. While stumping for Clinton in Philadelphia in September the president even got a chance to turn the “Thanks Obama!” meme on its head after talking about lowering gas prices. The commander-in-chief has proven he can deal with pressure on the campaign trail, even if it’s not his own.

Despite the relatively benign interaction between Obama and the Trump protester, Donald Trump told a different story at one of his own rallies in Hershey, Pennsylvania. According to the Independent, Trump told the crowd Obama screamed at the protester and should be considered “unhinged.”

“You have to go back and look and study and see what happened,” Trump told his Pennsylvania crowd. “There was a protester, and a protester who like us. [Mr Obama] was talking to the protester, screaming at him, really screaming at him.”

Trump, who has continued to spout the conspiracy theory that the election is rigged against him, said that if he spoke that way to a protester he would be considered unstable. “If I spoke the way Obama spoke to that protester, they would say: ‘He became unhinged!’ And he spends so much time screaming at this protester, and frankly, it was a disgrace,” Trump commented.

Although Trump told a bold-faced lie about Obama’s interaction with the protester, his misinformation didn’t go unnoticed. Politifactgave Trump a “pants on fire” rating for his statements about President Obama. However, Trump’s misrepresentations haven’t always come back to haunt him. The candidate has cultivated a new landscape for political discourse and a lack of decorum.

As election day draws near, both Clinton and Trump are advancing their campaign efforts. However, Trump has maintained his assumption that the election is rigged and insulted politicians and civilians alike. His strike against Obama is just another in a long list of insults Trump’s campaign has spurred.
