Black Pink vs Twice: Who’s The Best Kpop Girl Group of 2016? [Videos]]

Black Pink and TWICE. Two Kpop girl groups from rival record labels who are going head to head for the crown of best girl group of 2016.

But based on this article from Billboard Magazine, with just over a month of the year left to go, it looks like TWICE is the reigning queens of Kpop in 2016.

According to Billboard TWICE’s second EP, Page 2, is currently the highest selling album released in 2016 by a kpop girl group with over 150,000 physical copies of the album sold. This is especially significant, Billboard reports, because male groups tend to be the acts that get strong physical album sales in South Korea because of their loyal, ardent, female fanbases. So this just goes to show TWICE’s capacity to crossover and appeal to a wide range of fans.

Their music videos are also highly successful and have racked up millions of views on YouTube. Their video for the hit single “Cheer Up” got to 50 million views faster than any Kpop artist ever. They achieved the milestone in 2 months. The video currently has over 95 million YouTube views.

“Cheer Up” isn’t their only video to go viral. The video for their song “TT” recently became the fastest video to rack up 10 million views from a Kpop act, according to Billboard. This means that the wrestled the title away from Bangtan Boys’ (BTS) “Blood, Sweat and Tears.” How’s that for girl power!

Although TWICE has enjoyed a lot of success this year, that doesn’t mean that the members of Black Pink has been sitting idly by and not making moves of their own.

As All Kpop reports, when two of Black Pink’s music videos were released earlier this month for “Playing With Fire” and “Stay” both visuals accumulated millions of views in 24 hours. Currently, the “Playing With Fire” video has over 14 million views. The video for “Stay” has over 9 million views. Black Pink also released videos for two other songs, “Boombayah” and “Whistle,” which also have millions of views. Their recently released EP, Square Two, is also currently burning up several music charts.

So, it’s not like Black Pink have not been having lots of success in 2016. But they launched their careers only three months ago and that could explain why they may be a bit behind TWICE.

But it’s obvious that the girls of Black Pink are focused on multiplying their success. In a recent interview, they talked about the fact that they’re not really dating anyone because of the strict rules their agency has about that sort of thing.

As the International Business Times reported, in a recent interview the ladies of Black Pink discussed the fact that they were discouraged from dating by YG Entertainment’s head honcho, Yang Hyun Suk.

“Since the first day I entered YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk sajangnim told me to always be careful of boys,”Jennie said. “I think dating bans will always exist during our time under the label.
