Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC, articulated the angry liberal’s soul after the less-than-enthusiastic showing from Barack Obama at the first Presidential debate earlier this month — and Saturday Night Live was there to lampoon the moment on their episode that week.

In the original clip just after the debate, Chris Matthews launched into a massive tirade characteristic of the anchor in which he fumed:

“Where was Obama tonight? … He should watch – well, not just Hardball, Rachel [Maddow], he should watch you, he should watch the Reverend Al [Sharpton], he should watch Lawrence [O'Donnell], he would learn something about this debate.”

Matthews also said:

“We have our knives out. We go after the people and the facts … What was [Obama] doing tonight? He went in there disarmed!”

As it turns out, Chris Matthews viewed the clip that ricocheted across the web after his heartfelt, post-debate rant. And Matthews says that Jason Sudekis does a great impression, but he does not believe he is as much of a blowhard as the clip makes him out to be.

When asked, Matthews had this to say about the viral SNL post-debate mockery:

“It’s not exactly accurate, but it is funny. I think I am not as loud as they have me. I think I am a little more subtle than those guys are. But Jason plays me loud. I think it’s all good.”
