Instant Poll Finds Obama’s Speech Swayed Moderates
After a speech to a joint session of Congress, more Americans support President Barack Obama’s plans to reform the healthcare system, according to an instant poll taken of voters who watched the televised address.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation nationwide poll surveyed 427 Americans who saw the entirety of Obama’s address to Congress on Wednesday evening.
A full 56 percent of Americans say their impressions of Obama’s speech were “very positive,” – overall, 77 percent say they had positive opinions about the speech.
Before the speech, 60% of Americans felt Obama’s healthcare plans would move the country in the right direction. Now, that number has jumped ten points to 70 percent. Similarly, only 53 percent of Americans favored Obama’s healthcare plans. After the speech, the poll found 67% now favor the Commander in Chief’s reform agenda.
