Car fans won’t get a glimpse of the new 2014 Corvette until January but Chevrolet did unveil its new crossed-flag logo for the 7th generation “Vette,” also known as the C7.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Chevrolet will officially unveil the 2012 Corvette at the Detroit Auto Show on January 13. According to Reuters, the company will start building 2014 models a few months later with the first C7 slated to roll off the line on June 30. Reuters notes that June 30, 2013, will mark the Corvette’s 60th anniversary.

Details about the design of the C7 aren’t known but the NY Daily News expects the new car to feature a “radically restyled exterior, a more upscale interior, a lighter chassis, and a more efficient engine and transmission.”

Chief engineer Tadge Juechter said that the C7 is “a truly all-new Corvette. There are only two carryover parts from the C6 used in the C7 – the cabin air filter and the rear latch for the removable roof panel.”

GM has sold more than 1.5 million Corvettes since the car’s debut in 1953. Sales have slowed recently but the car still has a loyal fan base.

The C7 is expected to cost around $55,000 for the basic model and about $120,000 for the Corvette ZR1.
