Whitney Houston Debuts At #1 On Billboard Albums Chart

Miami, FL (CNS) – Whitney Houston rightfully earns the title for “Comeback of the Year” this week, earning her first #1 album in sixteen years. Her latest, “I Look To You,” became Houston’s fourth #1 album and her first since 1993’s “The Bodyguard” soundtrack spent twenty weeks at the top spot. “I Look To You” sold 305,000 copies in its first week. Her last album, “Just Whitney,” debuted at #9 in 2002 with 205,000 copies sold.

Miley Cyrus, who got an unofficial head start last week with copies sold before it’s official release date, moves up to #2 this week with the Walmart-exclusive “The Time of Our Lives” EP in its first official week of release. The EP, which features her #1 digital single “Party in the U.S.A., sold another 153,000 copies.

Houston is also joined in the top 10 by five other new entries. Trey Songz debuts at #3 with “Ready,” his first top 10 debut. He sold 131,000 copies in his first week. The Insane Clown Posse debut at #4 with “Bang! Bow! Poom!,” the group’s first top 10 album since 1999’s “The Amazing Jeckel Brothers.”

Colbie Caillat returns for another week at #5, selling 47,000 copies of her sophomore album, “Breakthrough.” Chevelle debut at #6 with their first top 10 album on the chart, “Sci-Fi Crimes,” selling 46,000 copies. Kings of Leon drop to #7 this week with “Only By the Night” selling 45,000 copies.

Pitbull earns his first top 10 album with “Rebelution,” which debuts at #8 this week on the strength of his hits “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” and “Hotel Room Service.” He sells 41,000 copies his first week out. Taylor Swift, no stranger to the top 10, spends her 43rd week on the chart at #9, selling 35,000 copies of “Fearless.” The Used debut at #10 with “Artwork,” their third top 10 album which sold 35,000 copies in his its first week.
