WWE News: WWE Officials Have Major Concerns About Goldberg Vs. Brock Lesnar Feud Heading Into WWE ‘Survivor Series’

Back at WrestleMania 20, WWE fans were highly anticipating Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg in Madison Square Garden, but they were disappointed by a lackluster match, a smart New York crowd that exposed the details behind the scenes, and it soured both Goldberg and Lesnar in the WWE for many years. However, WWE will be giving the fans and the two WWE Superstars another chance to get it right over 12 years later.

While the WWE Universe is undoubtedly happy about Goldberg being back on WWE television and having a potential retirement match against Brock Lesnar at WWE Survivor Series, there are some real concerns about their match won’t be able to deliver on the hype that WWE has given it, which would make it another missed opportunity that took 12 years to build to, and would likely be the end of the road for Goldberg.

No one is expecting their bout to be a technical wrestling masterpiece, but the fans are still expecting the two heavyweights to hit big power moves and give them a show. However, Goldberg hasn’t worked a match in 12 years, and Lesnar hasn’t been challenged in a match since the rematch with the Undertaker. WWE officials are trying to make this work, but they’re more concerned about the upcoming match than the WWE fans are right now.

According to a new report, WWE officials have major concerns about how the crowd in Toronto will react to the match between Goldberg and Lesnar. On paper, Brock Lesnar is a heel and Goldberg is a face. There was a report that WWE was considering a heel turn for Goldberg going into WWE Survivor Series because they think the crowd could turn against Goldberg if he goes into their match as the babyface doing it for the kids.

Apparently, Vince McMahon was furious about the reaction the crowd in Minneapolis had for Brock Lesnar, which was an eye-opener for many in WWE. No one should have been surprised that he got a hometown reaction, but WWE thought Paul Heyman working heel against the crowd would have been enough to sway them. Now, they’re fearful that the Toronto crowd at WWE Survivor Series will do the exact same thing.

WWE wants the WWE Universe to cheer for Goldberg over Brock Lesnar, so they needed to make their goal clear in Minneapolis. At a certain point, the WWE fans are going to do whatever they want, which leaves the result of the Goldberg vs. Lesnar match to the people of Toronto. WWE can only do so much, and the real work has to be done by the men in the ring. That is where the result of their match will really be decided.

It’s not like the thousands of fans that have tickets for WWE Survivor Series are going to coordinate before the PPV to decide if they’re going to cheer for Goldberg or Lesnar. Ultimately, the fate is up to them to tell a good story in the ring and get the desired reaction WWE officials, and the two performers, want to receive.

Simply put, that means the lion’s share of the pressure is going to be on Goldberg’s shoulder. During this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw, Goldberg got physical for the first time with Rusev and slipped at an important moment in the segment. There were already doubters that he could hang, but that botch has a lot of people concerned about the kind of match he’ll be able to have, especially after 12 years away.

There is a potential WWE Hall of Fame induction for Bill Goldberg coming next year in Orlando. It has been rumored that WWE could want him for more matches if his bout goes well at WWE Survivor Series. All of this is still up in the air because so much is riding on him performing well against Lesnar. Needless to say, the WWE fans in Toronto could give Goldberg the ending his career deserves, or they could take it away.
